Hey y’all,

Haven’t done this in a minute but I’m back to bait some Oscars! Let’s jump right in shall we 🙂

Best Picture
The Social Network
The King’s Speech
127 Hours
Toy Story 3
Inception
The Way Back
The Kid’s Are Alright
True Grit
Somewhere
Black Swan

Analysis: After the relative diversity of last year’s field with all the sci-fi and Precious, this year skews towards more of the Academy’s style of dramas. There’s a few WW2 flicks (King’s SPeech, The way back), some talky dramas, and a movie I am stanning for despite not seeing (Black Swan). While it seems like TSN and King’s Speech are the frontrunners it’s too early in the race for locks. However in a 10 wide field anything is possible and the dark horses are closer than you think.

Dark Horses: Another Year, The Fighter, The Rabbit Hole, Love and Other Drugs, Winter’s Bone, The Town

Best Director
David Fincher (The Social Network)
Danny Boyle (127 Hours)
Peter Wier (The Way Back)
Christopher Nolan (Inception)
Darren Aaronofsky (Black Swan)

Analysis: Another category that will return to form after a diverse year, the director’s category should skew white male. This is the category I’m least sure about due to the fact that only two of the 5 movies have been released. David and Christopher are almost locks and Danny and Weir are Academy faves. The wild card here is Mr. Aaronofsky but I’m hoping (praying, groveling) that his talents will be recognized by the Academy.

Dark Horses: The Coen Bros (True Grit), Ben Affleck (The Town), Sofia Coppola (Somewhere)
