Hello everyone! No podcast today as I am back home on the West Coast, but I have something exciting to keep you through the weekend: the first edition of Fan Fiction Friday! What is fan fiction you ask? Well, fan fiction is basically stories written about fans about fictional characters or elements of pop culture. Something like Fifty Shades of Grey is probably the most well known piece of fan fiction to go mainstream. I have been reading a ton of fan fiction, both high and low brow the past few months and am amazed at the skills fandom has. Whether its slightly riffing on an already established storyline or transporting the characters to an alternate universe, the writing ability of these fiction writers is a sight to behold. So I decided to highlight a a couple of fics each week from various fandoms to share with you all. Today’s entries come from the Teen Wolf fandom and my two favorite ships: Sterek and Scisaac.

Have you all read the His Dark Materials trilogy by Phillip Pullman? If not do so immediately and then come back and read this wonderful fic that takes Teen Wolf characters and puts them in the wonderful world of Daemons, alethiometers and the Magesterium. It was an inspired choice making the Alethiometer a person and having Derek be a changling, and the fic reads like a nonstop thrill ride to the very last word.

Best Scene: tie, The cliffhanger at the end of chapter 9 that literally involves a cliff and Derek in wolf form playing with Adara in Chp 8
Best Chapter: Chapter 8 reminded me a lot of the cabin episode in the first Season of Homeland in that it’s a great change of pace, forces our two main characters to confront the issues between them and manages to be sexy at the same time.
Mochas, Coronas and Tequila by bewarethesmirk
Ugh I ship Scisaac so hard and I don’t even know why. I totally blame Daniel Sharman’s acting in that scene where he healed the puppy. This fic is set in and around a coffee house (an extremely popular alternate universe location) and sees Isaac as a barista and Scott a college student who stops by the shop all the time. Like with most things Scisaac this fic borders on cute/angst/sexual stuff with ease and it’s a really fun read.

Best Scene: Isaac gets drunk and Scott takes him home, foolery ensues
