Well, well, well looks like we are in for one twisty Oscar race now doesn’t it. The SAG nominations were announced this morning and while they managed to be somewhat standard, there were some shocks and snubs that could spell trouble for this awards season. Let’s do some quick analysis of these SAG Nominations.

The Good

-Surprises. SAG is always good for a snub or two, but this year they managed to include some surprising choices like Dallas Buyers Club in ensemble or Whitaker in Actor.

-Barkhad Abdi gets a nomination for Captain Phillips which is a HUGE get for him if he really wants to factor into the Oscar race. Ditto Daniel Bruhl.

-Kerry Washington being nominated for her work on Scandal. Given how competitive the TV Drama actress race is, this is a big deal. Is another Emmy nom, and possible win, next?

The Bad

-If you look at the Best Ensemble nominees, one of those things is not like the other. With all of the great ensembles this year, how does Dallas Buyers Club get in?

The Ugly

-House of Cards missing out on an Outstanding Cast in a Drama nomination. There’s no reason why Boardwalk Empire should keep getting nominated, or Homeland being their for this season which has not been any good.

-No love for The Wolf of Wall Street. This is a big blow for that movie, especially Leonardo DiCaprio. Being recognized with some sort of love from the actors is almost necessary in order to receive an Oscar nom and it missing here doesn’t bode well. Also, Saving Mr. Banks made a poor showing, only landing a nom for Emma Thompson.
