So, we are back again. I am so excited that this show has returned it has been far too long and I cannot wait to see what is in store for us this season. A new evil begins to plague Vanessa and it’s coming from a familiar face we saw last season, will the Monster finally get his bride? Also where the heck was Dorian? Let’s begin shall we.

We begin immediately where we left off last season, Vanessa (Eva Green) is walking alone after talking to the priest everyone surrounding her seems happy, we see Madame Kali (Helen McCrory) and she spots Vanessa and starts talking in some demonic language. Vanessa starts hearing the voice and she’s getting all these flashes of different things.

Ethan (Josh Hartnett) wakes up covered in blood, remember folks our Mr. Chandler is a werewolf. As he is standing up he is shocked to see all these dead bodies all over…it’s a complete massacre.

Vanessa is arriving home, when Ethan stops her and tells her he needs to talk to her, but not at home and they take a ride in the carriage. Ethan tells her that he is leaving because he is not the person she thinks he is and that he doesn’t want to hurt her, he mentions to her that the battle is over that there isn’t anything left for him to do, but Vanessa tells him that it’s not that easy that there are still more things out there to do. He mentions to her about the blackouts he has and that it always ends up with him covered in blood. All of a sudden the carriage gets attacked and three creature women start attacking Vanessa and Ethan. One of these creatures starts talking to Vanessa in that same demonic language and Vanessa right back starts speaking in a different language and the creature gets scared and leaves.

Back at our favorite doctor’s place, Victor (Harry Treadaway) and Caliban (Rory Kinnear) are preparing Brona (Billie Piper) to reanimate her and Caliban asks Victor if she will remember her past life. They are lowering her into the water, but Victor mentions that they have to wait for the weather. Caliban is about to leave as he mentions that he needs to look for work and goes on and on about putting the blame on Victor for looking the way he is. Victor asks Caliban that if this works with Brona, if he will leave him in peace? Caliban’s response, “What is Dr. Frankenstein without his Creature?” and leaves…I truly love the lines that this show delivers with these character I always enjoy the poetry of it.

Vanessa still shaken, as Ethan and Sembene (Danny Sapani) are there with her…Ethan wants to know if she knew these creatures they encountered and says yes. We find out that Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton) will return tomorrow as he has gone back to his wife Gladys and has buried their daughter Mina. Sir Malcolm tells his wife that he should return here permanently, but she tells him no to go back to London and stay there, because they have no more children to bury or kill (man the look of Sir Malcolm when she tells him this…like he was stabbed right through the heart…ouch!).

Caliban is roaming the streets looking for work, but everywhere there are signs of there being no work anywhere…suddenly a wax figure on display grabs his attention and it’s a place called Putney’s Family Waxworks, he sees there is a sign for an employment opportunity and walks in meets the owner, who tells him that he’s been working on a series of crimes that have been happening and that his latest series he is creating with these wax figures is the “Mariner’s Inn Massacre” (uh oh Ethan). The owner tells Caliban to come back at seven o’clock to meet the missus to see if he will get hired.

The police are at the Mariner’s Inn and one of them believes that The Ripper is back…but the Inspector in charge says that this crime scene is different. Ethan is back to check in on Vanessa and Sembene tells him that she never left her room and that he has never seen her this frightened…well who wouldn’t be after these creatures wanted to kill her…the stuff of nightmares.

Back at Victor’s…he goes over to where Brona is and starts talking to her mentioning that she will learn everything and who will she become after she is brought back to life. Then this scene was getting a bit disturbing and uncomfortable because Victor starts touching Brona and thank heavens that there was someone knocking at the door and it’s Sembene telling Victor that he needs his help.

Caliban returns back to the Putney business, where he meets the owner’s wife and daughter who is blind and touches his face because she wants to meet him. He gets offered the job and accepts when he leaves the wife of the owner mentions why would he hire him that he will scare away the few customers they have and he tells his wife that Caliban will make them a fortune…poor guy doesn’t have a clue that they will exploit him yet again.

Sir Malcolm finally returns home and Vanessa is happy to see him…the gang has reunited again and Vanessa mentions the new evil facing them now. She mentions that these are not the creatures they once faced as these are deeply branded and scarred with the Devil’s mark. Also the language that these creatures were speaking was the Verbis Diablo, a dead language that is the word of the devil. Vanessa mentions that the creatures her and Ethan saw are called Nightcomers aka Witches.

Madame Kali is singing while bathing in the blood of someone who is lying on the floor dead, her lair is all covered in skulls and she walks out after her beauty treatment and we see the witches there along with her daughter Hecate. Hecate mentions that Vanessa has a protector who is a Lupus Dei (werewolf) and that he is very powerful and that she will go after him. Madame Kali says that she will go after Vanessa by enticing Sir Malcolm and that the Master won’t be denied his prize. One of the witches mentions that when they attacked Vanessa and Ethan that she knew the language, which surprises Madame Kali…who mentions that the room they are standing holds tokens of death aka Memento Mori, she gives a great speech about and slits the throat of the witch and I was like slay Madame Kali slay, she tells the others, “Take that bitch away” (Helen McCrory is gonna bring it this season…I can feel it).

Ethan tells Sir Malcolm that he was planning on leaving London, but he will now be staying and will be taking residence with Sir Malcolm and Vanessa.

There’s a storm brewing and Victor rushes home telling Caliban to turn on all the levers that they must catch the storm…they are charging the main conductor, which will power all the rest and Caliban gets shocked and falls over…for a minute I thought yes! Terence will be super happy because Caliban/Death is his OTP (I really thought Caliban might be dead…oh well Terence didn’t get his wish). Caliban gets up and is giving Victor the stink eye, because he thinks it didn’t work. All of sudden we see Brona’s hand coming out of the water and she rises up…she is ALIVE!

Ethan and Vanessa are looking at each other (I have a feeling these two will become a thing, since the Pilot we kinda saw this) Vanessa closes her bedroom door and cuts her finger and starts drawing on the floor a scorpion, she starts hearings voices and she starts talking in Latin trying to fight these voices. Madame Kali on the other side is doing the same thing, but she is talking to Lucifer saying she will not fail him and that she will make Vanessa suffer greatly and starts speaking in Verbis Diablo…this scene with both Vanessa and Madame Kali on opposite sides of the spectrum was intense…in the end we see Vanessa turning and sees the three Nightcomers in back of her and then they disappear and there’s no one there. What a start to the season…that’s all I can say!
