The show has reached the halfway point with five episodes in. And this week on Girls, two of the most important people in Hannah’s life take her newfound pregnancy in an unexpected manner. While Ray continues to mourn the loss of his friend, Adam and Jessa begin their new film project.
Hannah (Lena Dunham) stares at a lentil she has on her finger. She’s been researching on the web what the size of the baby is at six weeks. She then proceeds to make a list of reasons of why it is insane to have a baby. Elijah (Andrew Rannells) walks in telling Hannah the news that Hermie has passed away and how Ray is lucky. His reasoning for saying this? Because Ray will inherit everything and also Elijah tells Hannah he’s taken six adderalls.
Shosh (Zosia Mamet) goes over to visit Ray to give him her condolences about Hermie. Ray (Alex Karpovsky) tells Shosh how Hermie had an obscure terminal disease called Scleroderma. He tells Shosh how death is patiently waiting for all of them.
Filming their movie, Adam (Adam Driver) is acting out a scene with an actress that looks eerily like Hannah. The scene gets super steamy and Jessa (Jemima Kirke) tells Adam how they should film another scene focused on him and how annoyed he is that he has to indulge in this fake Hannah. Adam tells her that the scene was great and that they should move on to the next one.
Hannah’s mom has arrived to the apartment, where she tells Loreen that she’s pregnant. She is shocked, but can also see how Hannah looks happy and understands the feeling of how this is Hannah’s baby and smiles.
Ray is clearing out and looking at Hermie’s belongings with Marnie (Allison Williams) and with just the looks she is giving Ray it’s clear that she does not want to be there. Ray sensing it tells her she can go if she has plans. Marnie tells him she doesn’t, but then minutes later makes an excuse that she needs to go to some exercise class and will be back later. Ray annoyed tells Marnie that she should not come back and that they should break up. Marnie calls Ray cliche and tells him that she is not a bad person (yes you are) and leaves.
Filming another emotional scene about Adam and Hannah’s relationship…Jessa sees the intensity of it and is not happy at all. When the scene is over Jessa tells Adam how Genevieve is a bad actress, but Adam disagrees. Jessa tells him how she doesn’t understand the point of this romantic scene. Adam tells her how that whole relationship was too intense to survive and Jessa tells him that is what they have. Adam annoyed tells Jessa if she has even read the script and she tells him no that she is the producer (hahaha).
At the laundromat Hannah’s mom is eating these gummies made with pot and they start talking about life and babies. She tells Hannah how she has happy when she was pregnant. Loreen starts realizing that soon she will be a grandmother and then she starts feeling depressed. She tells Hannah how she feels alone. Loreen a bit upset leaves. Elijah laying on his bed looking depressed listening to Third Eye Blind’s “Semi-Charmed Life” gets interrupted when Hannah storms in asking if he has seen her mother. She mentions to Elijah how her mom is high on gummies and he tells her she is fine. Both go searching around the city to look for Loreen and finally find her at a Chinese restaurant. Loreen being high lets the cat out of the bag that Hannah is pregnant. Elijah thinking she’s joking starts laughing, but that changes when he sees Hannah.
Hannah wants to explain to Elijah about the baby, but he tells her that he doesn’t want to hear about it and how he thinks this is a really bad idea. And tells her how this is another reckless impulsive typical Hannah decision (ouch!) and wants to know when she will be moving out, because he does not want to live with a boring 27-year-old single mom. Elijah reminds Hannah that they had a real special specific thing going on between them. And she ruined all that with having some baby. Hannah tells Elijah that she needs him and she thought he would be happy about the baby. He reminds Hannah how she is not ready for motherhood and she retorts back telling Elijah how he’s not ready for this. Elijah lashes out and tells Hannah that she is going to be a terrible mother (double ouch!) and leaves.
Hannah tells Loreen that she has cannabis poisoning, but that has never caused an overdose death in the US. Then Loreen tells Hannah how every time she sees Hannah’s baby she will see her own death and throws up. Walking back to her apartment, Hannah finds her actress counterpart sitting on the front stairs of the building. Hannah asks if she’s moved in, but Genevieve tells her she is filming a movie here. Hannah mentions to Genevieve that she is pregnant and tells her how she is worried about it. Genevieve tells her not to worry that kids are super easy that the tough part is being an adult as the screen fades to black.
