Danger, Will Robinson! Did all of you know that Netflix was remaking Lost in Space? I found out recently and was intrigued by what could possibly be in store. They came to WonderCon and showed off the pilot and I really enjoyed it! It was a good balance of family show and more adult fare. Here are my snap judgements

The Robinson’s Are Gonna Be Put through It
In the pilot alone the Robinson’s ship crashes, the mom has to have surgery which her squeamish daughter must do, one child gets stuck in the ice, Will Robinson is in a stalemate with an alien after falling through an ice slide…and this is before you reach the episode’s halfway point

The Family Isn’t Perfect
Without giving too much away in this review, let’s just say the family dynamics are ROUGH. The characters all have these frayed relationships and there one reveal in particular that shed new and amazing light on what we would encounter. I like that they revealed it in the pilot too because now as we go forward in the series, we’ll be able to get a better understanding of these characters as people.

The Visuals are Out of This World
I mean, we all know that with a Netflix budget you can get some amazing things (Iron Fist aside) but the VFX of this series are really great. Ditto the shot selection from Neil Marshall, who knows that he has an amazing canvas to work with whether on earth, in its orbit or on another planet. He’s not afraid to find the moments that grab you by the throat and film them in a complimentary way.

Who Are the Villains?
At first it seems like the alien robot Will meets will be the villain and indeed you see one rampaging near the end. Is this a case of one good one in the midst of all the bad or will he turn on our family? Also, we don’t get much time with her but Parker F-ing Posey is in this and she steals the jacket of one Dr. Smith, the villain from the original. She looks wild, but I have no idea what they’re going to do with her, which is really exciting.

Anyways, you all should check out the show when it drops Arpil 13 on Netflix. For now, enjoy the new trailer:
