The Emmy nominations were announced this morning. I’m still making my way through the Emmy shows but let’s talk about them!
The Good
If you’re rooting for Black people, you’ve got a ton of people to root for, especially in the drama categories.
MJ Rodriguez getting nominated is amazing. Frist transperson to be nominated for an acting Emmy!
Even with Small Axe not making it, the limited series battle is crazy with so many good shows and performances.
The Bad
Emily in Paris landing in Comedy Series is hilarious. What I will say is that the show is perfectly fine as a foolish place of fluff and I really think the backlash to it made it be on people’s radars more. Word to the wise, if you don’t want something to be nominated, don’t hate watch and ignore it.
I think the Emmys need to take a serious look at the rules of their categories and limit the number of people who can be nominated from a single show in a category. When you have 4-5 nominees in the supporting races coming from shows like The Handmaid’s Tale or Ted Lasso, you’re ignoring work from other shows.
Also in need of a look, moving SNL actors to a Variety acting style category. The work they do is not the same as comedy series actors and we should acknowledge the difference.
The Ugly
Don Cheadle getting nominated for Falcon and the Winter Soldier. We all know if anyone was gonna get an acting nom it should have been Carl Lumbly. Did they get their negroes mixed up?
The Emmys website. Why must the Emmys make it so damn hard to look at their nominees? This year you have to click on each individual category when they could just have one big list on the website to view. Nevermind that PDF… DO better!
