The Good, Bad, and Ugly: 2021 Golden Globes Nominations

The first major awards show of the year the Golden Globes announced their nominations. Naturally I have some observations. Lets dive in!

The Good

  • Ted Lasso, The Flight Attendant, and Lovecraft Country getting noms is nice.
  • 3 women in best director!
  • The nominations aren’t a total train-wreck, a new feeling for the globes.

The Bad

  • Don’t quite know if this is a bad thing but do the drama nominees on the movie side seem…boring to anyone? Like outside of Tahir Rahim getting nominated, everything else was expected.
  • Da 5 Bloods didn’t get any nominations. Even more awkward is Spike Lee’s kids are going to be the Golden Globes ambassadors this year.
  • I’m actually surprised Bridgerton didn’t get a nomination for anything.

The Ugly

  • I like Lin Manuel Miranda a lot and Hamilton is a phenomenon unto itself, but there is no way that you watch that live recording and nominate him and not Leslie Odom Jr, the guy who won the Tony! (Also what is James Corden doing in there)
  • Jared Leto in supporting actor? If the HFPA don’t stop playing in our faces…
  • Ratched.
