Shadowhunters Episode 2.05 Recap “Dust and Shadows”

New Shadowhunters, new recap! This is officially the halfway point in the first half of the Shadowhunters and the improvement the show has showed has been great. This wasn’t my favorite episode of the series however.

Last week, I mentioned that I hoped that her mother’s death would focus Clary…this wasn’t what I had in mind LOL Clary was basically on a warpath to raise her mother from the dead. She was initially warned by Magnus that this would be a mess but of course she didn’t listen. Clary got a surprising accomplice in Alec, whose guilt leads him to go with her. Now I knew this raggedy woman Iris was a mess the second Clary met her but the fact she wanted Clary to incubate a warlock baby?! CHILE I WAS SHOOK. Clary got kidnapped and thrown in a cell where a demon comes in channeling American Horror Story. She manages to do a new rune and blasts the demon with sunlight.

Simon is always a fun jolt of energy to the show and putting him back in the orbit of his family provided the show with a bit of lightness…for like 5 minutes before they dragged our spirit! This storyline is sure to bubble over even more cause after Simon’s sister threw his blood away he started freaking out. He then told his mama that he’s a vampire and she believes him. Then she catches him eating a rat and I just…my poor Simon.

When I tell y’all I am TAHD (tired) of these possession type storylines and then characters blaming themselves. It was awful on Teen Wolf with Derek, awful in How to Train Your Dragon 2, and a mess here. I like when this show finds ways to shake the unflappable Alec but I am not a fan of how they chose to do it. Even if they somewhat juxtapose it with Jace.

I’m gonna keep an eye on Aldertree and Izzy. Those reactions from her using whatever creme that was and how close they were standing…

Next week looks to be awesome with the Iron Sisters and a Malec first date.
