Documentaries are hard. That’s the basic lesson I learned when I created this film titled The Priest. That and I need to get more coverage than I think I do. I mentioned this project last week and I am happy to share the final product (although if you follow me on Twitter or Facebook you’ve prob seen the video). To be honest, I slightly hate this film. I mean it looks good and I managed to get some good shots, but I so wish I had a do over now that I sort of know what I was going for/have the music. But I think it’s good for me to be able to look things that I might think I did badly at and learn and grow. So without further ado, and with some extra fun at the bottom of the post, here’s The Priest.
Hello everyone! There’s been slow goings at the blog because of all the stuff that’s happening with film school. Speaking of, I wanted to tell you all about a project I’m helping produce! The film, directed by graduate student Ethan Speakman, is called Cute Girl Uncertainty Principle and it’s about a guy who uses quantum mechanics to make a girl fall in love with him. As a producer on this project you might think I’m being biased when I say it’s a great project to get involved in, but unequivocally it’s one of the best graduate thesis projects I’ve read and I’d love for everyone to contribute to help Ethan get his film off the ground. You can go directly to this link if you want to donate. Need more convincing? Check out the short video and full synopsis after the jump!
…how tired will I be by the time this first semester of film school is over? This is a question I pondered yesterday and if the past two weeks are any indication, I #minuswell get my casket ready. My goodness have things picked up and my free time has all but evaporated. Luckily I have the day off today to recuperate. But let me tell y’all a bit about my life so you can share in the wonders that is film school. Warning: Reading this may cause you to want to lay down and rest lol
Here is the first film I’ve directed in my production class! [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8Bi3Tf6z9A]
Well as the title says, you can’t win them all. That’s a lesson I kinda learned when I did an assignment for cinematography this past week. We were told to take 5-7 photos of either lost and found or mistaken identity and to pick some interesting angles or compositions. This did not go as I would have hoped for various reasons. I didn’t really have a set story but loosely these photos are a guy get lost in the library and finds his group member.
Can you make an abstract idea into a story? This was something posed to my production class this past week in an effort to understand the process of visualizing/externalizing concepts. As filmmakers, we often take the smallest of ideas and turn them into visual stories. I partnered up with one of my classmates to shoot 3 photos that were supposed to convey an abstract emotion in a sequence. Check the photos and see if you can guess what we were going for.
