Full disclosure before I start this review, I have never much liked The Great Gatsby in any form. The previous movie versions are dreadful and the book, while thematically fantastic never leaps off the page given the character’s unlikability and voice over type narration. However, I tried to purge my mind of these feelings when I sat down for my screening. That wouldn’t be hard as the movie’s marketing was so good and the visuals so lush, I found myself anticipating the film far more than I thought I would be. And while Baz Luhrman’s glamorous remake of The Great Gatsby manages to make love to your eyes balls with it’s period costumes and dazzling production design it is unfortunately it’s the cinematic equivalent of blue balls, leaving you disappointed and unfulfilled.
On the heels of the recent news that Guys and Dolls was getting a big screen remake with C-Tates and JGL and the Tony nominations, I decided to give this week’s top 10 a Broadway flavor. Movie musicals come and go in terms of public consciousness but given the success over the past few years, we might be entering a new age where musicals are being made regularly again. So I now present to you the top 10 Broadway musicals that haven’t made it to screen yet.
Hollywood stardom is a difficult thing to quantify these days since Hollywood has become a place driven more by production value than the stars in the production. Yet despite that, we still can identify movies based on their actors. We will still refer to films as Tom Cruise movies or ask, oh is that the one with Angelina Jolie? Once you’ve ascended to stardom, you’ve pretty much made it. So what of the possible movie stars today? Well I’m here to offer you a glimpse at the people I think are next in line provided they play their cards right. I tried to pick a mix of people just on the cusp as well as some who might need a few breaks, but will succeed in the end. Check out my selection of people after the jump!

Yesterday I revealed my top 10 films of 1999 and I thought it would be nice to release my choices for my favorites in the category breakdowns. Since this year is so ripe, no one film dominated the wins although The Matrix did rack up an impressive 11 nomintations. Dig into my choices after the jump!
Today’s Top 10 finds me looking back on the film year of 1999 along with my colleagues at the Awards Circuit. (BTW have you voted in our ACCA 1999 awards? Go do it!) Being on the most formative years of my existence, I was shocked to realize that despite the broad slate of films I’ve seen almost as many films this year so far (31) than I saw in all of 1999 (36)! But 1999 was such a good year for film, incredibly diverse and the films of that year are so representative of that time period. Enough of my blathering, here are the top 10 films of 1999!
