If I Had an Oscar Ballot, 2016 Edition

Welcome to my annual Oscar ballot post. Normally this would come post Oscar nominations, but due to them being announced next week rather than this one, it gets an early showcase. After tabulating these results, The Witch leads all films with 9 nominations, followed by Arrival with 7 (surprising even myself, I’ve come to appreciate

Film Review: Everybody Wants Some

There’s something about these Richard Linklater films, man. It’s hard to know exactly how to describe the phenomenon that is a Linklater picture, with each of his movies containing a spirit that can’t be seen, but a spirit that has such a tangibility that audience members come away from a project enveloped by his world building, his characters, and his themes. His latest film, Everybody Wants Some, manages to be so many things at once: a sports film, a coming of age story, a brilliant comedy, and a deep rumination on college life and the human condition.

Top 25 Most Anticipated Films of 2016

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful time enjoying the revelry. Since the calendar has turned to 2016, it is time for my annual post about the most anticipated films of the year.

My Final Oscar Predictions

Well, the time is almost upon us. Ballots were finally turned in yesterday and we have one of the more interesting Oscar races that we’ve had in a while. Well folks, we’ve reached the final 2014 year in review post. It’s been a joy but I do eventually have to move on to talking about 2015 stuff! Anyways, I’m sure we’re all still in a tizzy about the Oscar nominations and what better way to channel that than into envisioning what might go on a ballot if I had one. You have already seen my top 10 films of the year and special awards and here’s the best of the rest.

Oscar Predictions Update: Oscar Nom Eve

‘Twas the night before Oscar nominations and all the bloggers/critics/awards enthusiasts are hedging their bets at what will be announced tomorrow. For me, this has been one incredibly interesting phase 1 with films like Nightcrawler, American Sniper and The Grand Budapest Hotel making strong cases while the likes of Unbroken and Fury have faded a bit. There are so many ways the awards can go given that all categories are being announced live. Will we get 9 Best Picture nominations again? Will one of the big front runners miss? We’ll just have to wait and see.
