Well folks, here we are, at the end of the year of our Lord (or whatever god you do or don’t believe in) 2013. This has been, bar none, one of the craziest years of my short 24 years on this planet. Which is why this post is probably going to be all over the place but I’m going to soldier on and try and cohere my thoughts.
I think the best place may be to start would be with my decision to quit my job to go to film school. There have been many difficult decisions I’ve made in my life and this is somewhere near the top. I realize I haven’t spoken a lot about my job on the blog, for reasons of trying to maintain some source of anonymity from my employer and because I think of my blog as a safe space away from work. But I #minuswell go into it now since this is an introspective piece. I worked for one of the largest EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) companies whose name rhymes with Bechdel up until August 1.
2013 has been a surprisingly great year for a variety of things, especially in music. So much great music to listen to from a variety of genres has graced our ears and enabled the year to go by quickly. Anyways, it was really difficult to make this list of the top 10 albums of 2013 because of the wealth of music I had to choose from. But preservere I must, so here’s my list of the top 10 albums of 2013!
This is everything I needed and didn’t know I wanted. So many people have been saying that Beyonce’s “Rocket” felt like a cover of D’Angelo’s song “How Does It Feel” and now some wonderful person named JayBeatz has made a mashup of the two tracks and it’s glorious. I don’t really have much more to
I am pretty sure I’ll be thoroughly judged for this post but oh well. It’s true that I do read an insane amount of fan fiction and because of that I thought of sharing my favorites with you. Though I’m sure there’s plenty fics that I’ve missed making this list, you can go through my bookmarks and such on AO3 and find some more you like. Enjoy!
Despite the fact that over the course of my life I’ve spent countless hours on the internet, it took me up until this year to really start watching web series and reading web comics. Which is perhaps why this list is so sparse in comparison but each of these has really inspired me. If you listened to the last Demon Wolfcast, you’d know that I am hoping to write a web series this year and I’ve been trying to watch my favorites again to see what I can glean from them. Also, I’ve enjoyed reading web comics, and one in particular really helped me in terms of learning how to focus on story. So without further ado, here are my faves!
