2013 in Review: Top 10 TV Shows of the Season So Far

the-good-wife-cast-season-4

Ah television, the (almost) love of my life. I have spent so much time over the course of my years watching television and this year was no exception. Making this post however was actually quite a struggle given that I’ve actually shaved down the amount of TV I watch since I got to grad school. That and the fact that during the summer, there was only one show worth watching (The Fall) and I caught that way back in May. Anyways, I did manage to come up with a Top 10 TV shows of the season so far list that doesn’t suck so here it is.

Merry Christmas!

I Have Some Thoughts on the new Trailer for HBO’s ‘Looking’

New-HBO-Gay-TV-Show-Looking

There might not be a show I’m more excited for right now than HBO’s Looking and every trailer we get just increases the love. We finally get our 2nd official trailer for the show. Since the series is just around the corner (Jan 19!) I decided to watch the trailer and jot down some thoughts.

Watch the First Teaser Trailer for Orphan Black Season 2

I managed to miss Orphan Black when it was first airing on TV but thanks to the wonders of On Demand I was able to watch all of the episodes in the past two weeks. My goodness is this a great show. It’s scifi without being super technical, the world building and characters are incredibly sharp, and Tatiana Maslany can act her ass off. Needless to say, I’m glad I waited this long to watch the show because the wait won’t be as long for the next season. Today, BBC America dropped the first teaser trailer for the second season of the hit show. Peep it after the jump!

Film School Files: 30 Day Retreat (Terence’s Cut)

One of these days I’ll learn to edit a film by exactly what the script says and by watching all of the footage. The edit for this film however was not one of those days and made this one of the toughest movies I’ve tried to edit. I asked my friend Fr. Vince to give me his footage at the end of the semester because I liked his movie 30 Day Retreat and wanted to do a take on it. He’s got this Malick like aesthetic that made for a really beautiful film. Turns out trying to edit like Malick is really fucking hard. I mean you can jump cut all you want but if it doesn’t makes sense then the movie falls apart. Taking that into account, and the fact that I wanted more footage of the guy on the retreat and you have for one tough edit. However, I’m really proud of how it turned out. So without further ado, here’s the 30 Day Retreat!

Friday Fantasy Adaptation: Next to Normal

Hello all this week’s Friday Fantasy adaptation takes a look at another musical, but this time one with an insane critical pedigree, the Pulitzer Prize winning Next to Normal. It’s one of the better musicals of the past 10 years and it’s only a matter of time before someone attempts to turn into a film. So what would that even look like? Let’s take a gander…
