Top Films 10 of 2013, Golden Globe Predictions and other Pieces of the Week

Top 10 Films of 2013

Out of all the years I’ve been covering film, 2013 certainly ranks near the top of film years that make it hard to craft a top 10. There were so many different permutations of this top 10 list that I had to walk away from the computer for five minutes to regroup. However, I think that the battle was well worth it as the 10 films I selected accurately reflect the films that really spoke to me this year.

Golden Globe Predictions

This Sunday the first major award show, The Golden Globes, is set to air and will give us our first true look at what the awards season might bare out. With Oscar nomination being announced on Thursday, the Globes might be the first place to convince people to put you down to win the big prize. So who will win at the Globes? I took a look at the nominations and offered some predictions and analysis.

Friday Fantasy Adaptation: Hero by Perry Moore

1251032Rare is it these days that I have time to curl up with a book and even more rare that I get captivated by a book to this extent. Hero, the novel by Perry Moore seemed like a logical choice to read since it was a different take on superheroes than I’d previously read and it makes for a great entry into the Friday Fantasy Adaptation group.

It was about time HBO decided to let us know when my beloved Game of Thrones would come back. At TCA’s today the cable network announced that the show will return on April 6, the same night as their other wonderful series Veep and new show Silicon Valley. Should make for a heck of a night. The network will also premiere the trailer for Game of Thrones this Sunday at 8:55 pm before HBO miniseries True Detective. Peep the press release.

Watch the New Trailer for ‘House of Cards’ Season 2

house-of-cards-season-2-posterYou guys, can it be Feb 14 so I can get this new season of House of Cards? The 2nd trailer just released today is so, so good and I need this series to binge watch right now. Here’s the synopsis of the foolery we are in store for: Francis (Kevin Spacey) and Claire (Robin Wright) Underwood continue their ruthless rise to power as threats mount on all fronts. Zoe Barnes (Kate Mara), an up-and-coming reporter and Francis’s former paramour, is inching closer to the truth about his crimes. President Walker’s (Michel Gill) billionaire confidante Raymond Tusk (Gerald McRaney) demands that Francis reciprocate political favors or face retribution. And Claire must confront the increasing glare of the spotlight as it eats away at her and Francis’s once private existence. Watch the awesome trailer after the jump!
