Sorry everyone that this recap is late, but last weekend I was away and was super busy this week with work and other stuff. So today you will get two recaps for last week’s episode and later on tonight for the new episode.
We start the episode with a young Victor walking around he stops and looks at his dog who is dead and decaying with maggots all over him and just stares at the dog. Next scene we get of Victor with his mother in bed and tells him that she is sorry about his dog Bradshaw. As she is talking to him she suddenly spurts out blood on him. We see that Victor is watching his mother being treated in her room because she is dying. Young Victor tells his father, “Death is not serene” and then next scene they are burying his mother, Caroline. Victor starts grabbing all these books from the library and starts reading the Human Anatomy book and that’s where it all begins for the young Victor Frankenstein. We come back to the present to where we left off last week with Victor (Harry Treadaway) and his first born(Rory Kinnear). Victor is still in shock about what has happened with Proteus (we are too Victor, we shipped you guys). The Creature tells Victor that he is going to hear about how he bled. That he was born out of sheer agony, that he was abomination. We go back to where Victor first created his first-born and how both were terrified, the Creature tells him that he waited for him to return, but he never did. The Creature started to question that if every creature was abandoned by their master, he learned by looking outside a window who people were and how they treated other people and animals, that he was an animal. The Creature started to read the books that Victor had left behind all the poetry. Victor asks the creature how he could do that to Proteus, who is still laying lifeless on the ground, the Creature tells Victor he did it because Victor brought him nothing but pain.
Vanessa (Eva Green) is walking the corridor when she starts hearing voices and also animal sounds, she sees Mina and tells Vanessa to help her. Mina tells her to save her from the beast that feeds at night. Vanessa goes to Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton) and tells him that they need to talk.
We go back to Victor and The Creature and tells him that didn’t he think that he would find Victor when he has the work of the surgeon and also the butcher. He starts telling Victor more about his story saying that he went to London or as the Creature calls it, “Cruel as a harlot’s curse” He continues saying that in that single night he found out about mankind’s capacity for hatred and mercy. Because we see that as the Creature is walking the streets people are horrified by him and also also gets beaten up. He meets his man who offers him some liquor and asks if his face is like that because of an industrial or clanking machine job accident. This man helps him out and tells him that he knows where he can get him a job where no one will say anything about his appearance and it’s the theater. They go to this theater where they are rehearsing an actual Penny Dreadful, “Sweeney Todd” the man tells the Creature that he will be a stage rat that he will be responsible for the machinery and that he can also live there. The man asks the Creature if he has a name. but doesn’t say anything…the man tells him if he has every heard of The Tempest and gives him the name of Caliban. The Creature tells Victor that in that instance he discovered what kindness was and also found a home. He also learned that creatures of perpetual resurrection were not welcomed by all and he learned to stay in the shadows. So he tells Victor that he followed him and waited, Victor wants to know what he wants from him. The creature tells him to suffer one cannot unmake the past and that he will show him what he wants.
Brona (Billie Piper) and Ethan (Josh Hartnett) are having sexy times, after they are done she starts coughing and Ethan asks her is she has medicine for her lungs and she says that she doesn’t. Ethan goes to Sir Malcolm’s home saying that he is looking for money and Sir Malcolm along with Vanessa tells him that he couldn’t have come at a better time. Vanessa tells Ethan that she sees things sometimes and that she is affected by forces beyond their world. Ethan asks what happened to Mina and Vanessa tells him that she was working as a governess and was engaged to a fellow named Jonathan Harker, but that she was influenced by someone else too a creature that has hovered between their world and the creature’s. Vanessa tells Ethan that they are going to the London Zoo, because she might know where Mina is.
More of Victor and The Creature, Victor keeps asking him what he wants from him. He tells him that, “Hunger compels us all” and what he is seeking is love, that he is seeking a companion. He wants Victor to make him an immortal mate, a woman. And if does not do it that he will strike down all those he loves, to what Victor replies to him, “Threaten me with life”.
Vanessa, Sir Malcolm, Ethan, and Sembene (Danny Sapani) go to the zoo, Vanessa starts hearing noises saying that something is wrong and what haven’t they told her. We see a wolf start growling and then many other wolves surrounding them. Ethan tells everyone to stay still and he goes walking to the main wolf and stares at it and pulls out his hand to it and the wolf goes to his hand and grabs it with his mouth, but doesn’t do anything and the wolves retreat. (So wondering if our Mr. Chandler has some kind of power too or he’s our Victorian dog whisperer) Vanessa starts hearings noises from all the animals and all of them start walking towards this trail of blood and dead animals and there’s the young fellow eating one of the animals.
Victor is walking alone when Sembene appears and tells him that Sir Malcolm needs to see him. The young fellow they capture tells them that his name is Fenton. Sir Malcolm wants to know who his master is and he starts hitting him. Fenton tells him that all the hidden will emerge and that Amunet and Amun-Ra will rule. Sir Malcolm keeps beating on Fenton when Ethan tells him that that’s enough and to stop it. Ethan says that he won’t take part in the torture of Fenton. Vanessa tells him that everyone in this room has been brutalized with loss and that has made them all brutal. Sir Malcolm tells everyone, “If we are to proceed, we proceed as one” That this is not for the weak or the kind to pledge to go as far as the soul will allow, he tells everyone in the room to swear it now. Everyone nods in agreement expect for Ethan, who they are still waiting on and then he tells Vanessa that he’s with them. Vanessa then asks Sir Malcolm that she wants to know something that the creature they seek didn’t want Mina, but wants her and she wants to know why and Sir Malcolm tells her he doesn’t know. Ethan and Vanessa are talking about Brona and he tells her that her name in Gaelic means sadness and that she has consumption aka tuberculosis and that’s why he needs the money to help her out. Last scene we get is of Fenton in the darkness and he is calling out to his master.
So, what did everyone think? If you have any comments you know what to do below and I also have another recap later on tonight for the new episode.
