Just because a filmmaker seems to be getting back on track doesn’t mean that they should be given a free pass. This is a statement I pondered last month when I saw American Sniper and the same statement I thought about while watching Big Eyes, Tim Burton‘s return to the land of non-CGI foolery. While it was nice to see a “subdued” Burton film, I can’t say I was happy to watch Big Eyes, a movie that’s lacking in energy and keeping an audience’s interest.
Have you ever watched something that was so engrossing and yet repelled you at the same time? Drew you in and made you think only to run roughshod over your better judgement? If you watched either The Affair or Ascension, you would be very familiar with these feelings as both made for incredible TV that also was tough to handle.
One of the casualties of the ridiculous schedule I had these past few months was my Outlander recaps. I powered through 7 of them but after time became nonexistent, I decided to save the mid season finale for when I had endless amounts of free time. I have to say that while the midseason finale didn’t bowl me over, it was nice to be back in the company of friends.
Whew do these Oscar predictions look drastically different.
