In this episode we got a not so shocking confession from someone regarding their sexuality, a disturbing scene that made me cringe just a bit, some drama and a proposal…which is wrong for so many reasons *sigh* So let’s begin.
Hannah’s parents, Tad and Loreen (Peter Scolari & Becky Ann Baker) are coming out of therapy, she mentions that their session went well and that she is so happy that she is finally getting her tenure. Tad wants to tell her something that he thinks that he is gay, no scratch that he knows that he’s gay. Loreen tells him this is bullshit and that he is just unhappy with her, he tells her that he wanted to wait until she got her tenure and that not everything is about her. Truly this has been a long time coming regarding Hannah’s dad for some reason I always thought he was…even more when he gave Hannah that talk a couple of eps back that she needed to do what made her happy regardless of what happened.
Hannah (Lena Dunham) is still substituting at the school and let’s the class knows that their teacher will be returning. One of the students, Cleo (Maude Apatow, she all grown up now I still remember her as the oldest kid in Knocked Up) starts discussing boys with her and how she likes this one guy she also mentions that she would like to date Shia LaBeouf…as they are walking outside Hannah mentions that she likes Fran (the History teacher) and Cleo tells her that she makes poor choices when it comes to relationships and who do they run into? Of course Fran (Jake Lacy) they have an awkward exchange and then Hannah and Cleo run off laughing.
At Marnie’s apartment, Desi (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) comes to Marnie (Allison Williams) carrying a box and is really happy telling her that this box is going to change their lives forever. Marnie opens up the box and and wants to know what he got he tells her they are German guitar pedals, because he is looking for a new sound. She wants to know how much this cost him and he tells her $2K this pisses her off saying that he spent the entire advance of their album they start arguing and Desi calls her names and storms off mad. What the heck are you still doing with this man Marnie?! Like don’t you see all the warning signals…I just can’t with this relationship.
Jessa (Jemima Kirke) is giving Shosh (Zosia Mamet) dating advice and in the process she is talking about Ace and how she wants him…she tells Shosh that she has to employ an element of surprise with Scott. Hannah and Cleo arrive at a tattoo parlor and decide that they should both get piercings and Cleo goes first…this scene was completely cringe-worthy when Cleo was getting pierced under her tongue I was like please stop. After witnessing this horror show Hannah decides she is not doing it, of course she wouldn’t.
Ray (Alex Karpovsky) and Shosh are passing out flyers since he’s running for city council…no one is grabbing his flyer and then Shosh stops someone and promising things and Ray tells her that she shouldn’t do that and that his honesty is one of the things that puts him apart from the other politicians. Ray asks her if she is seeing anyone, Shosh mentions that she has a date with Scott and that she finds him intriguing and then Shosh asks him the same thing and mentions that his current relationship status is “Crickets and Tumbleweeds” I swear I love Ray and also tells her that he started an E-Harmony profile, but that it was never completed because he is still holding out for someone that he knows is completely wrong for him and then Shosh realizes that he’s talking about Marnie and gets mad. I just love that Ray is still holding out for Marnie…my shipper heart! Those two just have something about them that works in my opinion. Also quick tidbit just look at the buttons that Ray made for his campaign “Mayday Rayday” hehe did I mention that I love Ray.
There’s a quick scene with Tad and Loreen in the car, where she’s crying and trying to process the news about Tad and they drive off to her party they are having with friends because of her tenure. Hannah runs into Fran again and apologizes for what happened the other night with Adam and that she wants to make better and new choices. Fran straight out tells her that the doesn’t want to be attracted to the drama and walks away. Shosh and Scott (Jason Ritter) are on their date and it turns completely awkward when she starts mentioning all these sexual things she wants to do to him and he tells her to take things slow, besides half of the cast of The Good Wife is at the bar (love that little mention).
Tad and Loreen arrive to her party that is being hosted by their friends Avi and Shanaz. Avi seems concerned and asks Tad if things are okay he tells Avi, “How late is too late to change?” (Haven’t we all had this same question before…I know I have) everyone is at the table and Tad decides to give a toast to Loreen saying how proud he is and that she is his life partner…Loreen starts laughing and she says she can’t stand listening to the bullshit and walks away and Avi grabs her in another room and kisses her confessing that he has been in love with her since that last summer and she just starts laughing because of the timing.
Back to my fave couple, not! Marnie is at a coffee shop and Desi apologizes telling her that he was selfish for doing what he did…she mentions that she is not materialistic and that money destroys couples. Desi wants to ask her a question and he reaches to his jacket to get a ring and proposes to her (I was like really?! No no no no) and Marnie accepts and I am just like what the hell are you doing Marnie…this is going to end up badly.
Tad and Loreen are back home and mentions to her that he watches a lot of gay porn lol and then she explicitly says a couple of things to him and then mentions that Avi is in love with and starts laughing because of the timing. Hannah is calling them on the phone and Loreen tells Tad that he needs to tell her he’s gay. Loreen is trying to tell her but Hannah keeps talking asking her mom if she thinks she is a dramatic person and she then just tells Hannah that her dad is gay…and she is left speechless and that’s it folks end of the episode.
