The crunch of TIFF has already started (yes I know it’s day 2) to try and get me but I won’t let it! In all seriousness, it’s so fun to get to see multiple films in a day and work on reviews as I feel compelled to. I’ll be doing some quick thoughts every so often to get my thoughts out on paper for these films:

Sacrifice: Having sat on it for a bit, I truly think this might be the best performance that Chris Evans has delivered on screen. Using every bit of what makes him a compelling actor while also twisting it and then building on the twist? Riveting to watch. The movie is like that Madisynn quote from She Hulk moving from good to bad to fun to weird to interesting and ultimately ending up a worthwhile watch. I did find the the character stuff far more interesting than the satire or the terrorist machinations.

EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert: It’s been 3 hours since the screening ended and I am still attempting to recover from just how much of a concert that movie felt like as TIFF played that thing in IMAX and at maximum volume. I am not the biggest Elvis fan or connoisseur, but I did have fun with much of this doc. It’s always cool to see an artistic process even if the music isn’t made for me. I gained a new appreciation for bands and background singers after watching this as the folks Elvis had with him were incredible.

The Furious: Ah, the Midnight movie in the daytime screening, how I missed you. Hilarious that I got to screen this movie at like 2pm when it’s so clearly meant to be watched in a packed auditorium at 11:59pm. Though it must be stated that my theater was packed and the movie played just as well during the day. The fights in this movie are unreal, so much creativity on display as the men in this movie brawl and fight using nearly every means they can to accomplish their goals. I was unfamiliar with Xie Miao prior to this movie, but I am going to make it a point to check out some other stuff he’s in.
