The Oscar race is certainly in for a jolt now. With the arrival of The Wolf of Wall Street, we could be in for an even more exciting awards season as things begin heating up. There’s not a lot of movement in the predictions but some heavy observations that could be made. Let’s dig in!
Look a new series! Inspired by the recent live TV version of The Sound of Music and some good twitter discussion, I decided to take a look at some of the various properties of stage and literature and create the perfect fantasy adaptation of said properties. I figured to get you all into this series I’d start out with a property everyone is more than likely very familiar with: the smash hit Broadway musical Wicked.

If every movie at Sundance is as good as Dear White People appears to be, I might have to stop resisting the urge to go to the festival. The film recently caught my eye because of that awesome title and after seeing the trailer I want to see this movie today. Dear White People, from writer/director Justin Simien, follows the stories of four black students at an Ivy League college where a riot breaks out over a popular “African American” themed party thrown by white students. With tongue planted firmly in cheek, the film will explore racial identity in “post-racial” America while weaving a universal story of forging one’s unique path in the world. Check out the trailer!
The National Board of Review is one of the oldest awards bodies and today they unveiled their nominees for 2013 film awards. Her, the newest Spike Jonze film about a man who falls in love with an operating system, was named the best film of the year, along with picking up Best Director. The nominees were really interesting so let’s dig in!
Hello Wolfcasters, how’s it going? I hope you all had a good Thanksgiving/Black Friday/regular week since we last recorded a podcast. Can I just say that I have terrible enabling friends? Last night I took some time out of my day to listen to the soundtrack for the TV version of The Sound of Music, debuting tomorrow and I was perplexed at the noises I was hearing and the struggle it was for certain members of the cast to sing the songs. My friend Courtney who is a terrible awful person and knows how much of a terrible person I am suggested I write a post about who they could have cast instead. I tried to rebuke this but then fellow blogger Brittney Bell suggested it seems like a legit post and like a weed the idea grew in my brain. I only have limited amounts of nice to give and my ears were not pleased with this music so here I am to name off 5 people who should have played Maria von Trapp instead of Carrie Underwood.
