Sterek, Slashtivism, and Stupidty: A Response to a Misguided Article

I am assuming, by now at least, you all have attempted to read the lengthy article written at the Daily Dot about why slashtivism, particularly Sterek slash shipping, is hurting Teen Wolf fans. It’s a ballsy piece stating the definitions of slash, how Teen Wolf fits in, and why the author thinks it’s problematic for the Sterek shippers to take over a show. After making my way through this article, some thoughts formulated in my mind so here they are.

Demon Wolfcast Minisode 3: Sterek

This is a podcast I thought we’d get to way down the line but with some pretty big developments and recent events we decided to finally tackle something big, Sterek. In this minisode, Micah and I try to put aside the seemingly vicious discourse and have a measured and thoughtful conversation regarding Sterek as a ship, the viability of it happening on the show, and take a good hard look at the various sides of the fandom reactions to the possibility of Sterek. This is not mean to serve as the end all be all for the conversation surrounding Sterek but we hope it will serve as a jumping off point to maybe a more social conscious conversation using a critical eye.

Fan Fiction Friday: ‘A Melody That Rises then Falls’, ‘Air Wolf’, and ‘One More Night’

imagesMan it’s been a minute since I’ve graced this blog with some fan fiction recommendations. Maybe it’s the hangover from realizing I won’t get another volume of Captive Prince for like a year. Before I get to showering some fics with love I have to mention that I kind of did a thing. I wrote a Sterek fic called Play the Music for Me! People seem to like it which is great and I’d appreciate any feedback. Anyways, on with the show, this week sees three wildly different fics, one set in Beacon Hills after Stiles almost dies, one set in war torn Afghanistan and one that details a toxic Sterek relationship. Check em out!

Fan Fiction Friday: ‘Tremble’ and ‘Mochas, Coronas, and Tequila’

fanfiction11Hello everyone! No podcast today as I am back home on the West Coast, but I have something exciting to keep you through the weekend: the first edition of Fan Fiction Friday! What is fan fiction you ask? Well, fan fiction is basically stories written about fans about fictional characters or elements of pop culture. Something like Fifty Shades of Grey is probably the most well known piece of fan fiction to go mainstream. I have been reading a ton of fan fiction, both high and low brow the past few months and am amazed at the skills fandom has. Whether its slightly riffing on an already established storyline or transporting the characters to an alternate universe, the writing ability of these fiction writers is a sight to behold. So I decided to highlight a a couple of fics each week from various fandoms to share with you all. Today’s entries come from the Teen Wolf fandom and my two favorite ships: Sterek and Scisaac.
