Man it’s been a minute since I’ve graced this blog with some fan fiction recommendations. Maybe it’s the hangover from realizing I won’t get another volume of Captive Prince for like a year. Before I get to showering some fics with love I have to mention that I kind of did a thing. I wrote a Sterek fic called Play the Music for Me! People seem to like it which is great and I’d appreciate any feedback. Anyways, on with the show, this week sees three wildly different fics, one set in Beacon Hills after Stiles almost dies, one set in war torn Afghanistan and one that details a toxic Sterek relationship. A Melody That Rises And Falls by Siny

Siny is a terrible wonderful awesome person for this fic which sees Stiles almost die and the impact it has on everyone. It’s like slow-fast-slow build Sterek with so much damn angst and phenomenal writing. The conversations between Derek and Stiles just drip with angst, and I’m so impressed with how real everything felt between the two of them.

It always astounds me at the ability of fan fiction writers to take these familiar characters and weave them into new plot lines. This is basically a modern day version of Top Gun and it’s just as foolish and campy as one would think, but it’s grounded in reality. It’s really inventive in its use of wolfsbane, terminology, and real life war scenarios. I love how the relationships between the main characters is retooled and yet comes together near the end.

Listen, if you haven’t read anything by Chasing before, you should know you’ll be in for a ton of angst lol. I LOVE this fic that takes inspiration from the Maroon 5 song to create a lot of Sterek sexy times that are anchored around a toxic relationship. If Teen Wolf ever decided to fully live up to its slashy nature, i could totally see this being the relationship Derek and Stiles have. Also for all you vers!sterek fans there’s plenty of flip flopping for you in here.
