Well folks, we have finally reached the end of the first half of the year! How crazy is that? 2014 has been such an interesting year so far for movies. I was going through my Lettrboxd page where I keep a database of my reviews and I realize that I didn’t see a single movie in February O_O compared with seeing like 20 in January and one a weekend during the summer. The year has also been particularly uneven in terms of output. The highs have been pretty dazzling but the lows have been a mess (including my first 0 grade for a film in a while). Crafting this list of course proved a very interesting challenge, considering I decided to include only the films that have had releases in 2014 so far, so you won’t see films like Boyhood or Dear White People on the list. There was also a lot of films that carried over from last year, particularly on the foreign language side (y’all don’t know how happy I was to give Pierre-Yves a Supporting Actor win). So here are the elements and films I thought deserved awards from the first half of the year.
