Outlander returns with “The Way Out,” a wonderful episode that manages to deliver even more wonderful treats and intrigue.

-I loved loved loved the opener of this week’s episode. Though we know I stan for Jamie and Claire, but I love everything about Claire and her real husband Frank. They feel like such an anachronistic couple amidst a lot of rigidity, which is why it was both hilarious and perfect that Frank was the on seeing Claire off on her trip to war and him kissing her through the train window.

-Also great, that daydream where Claire told Mrs. Fitz about her time traveling and it quickly going south. Outlander has done such an awesome job making that character relatable as well as giving us all the various aspects of that storyline, through voice over, dreams, actions, everything in the right amount.

-I know we are supposed to not like Colum Mackenzie, cause he basically is holding her prisoner but I like how they gave him more to do this week. Having him be pissed at the tailor for making him a coat that was too long was a great moment and Claire giving him a massage afterwards (does my arse offend you?) was fun.

-Jamie and Claire…just…why do I get attached to my OTPs so early? They were so cute at that little music performance, with Jamie barely paying attention to that other chick. Which made me so mad that he ended up making out with her later! Sir, whet? It lead to a hilarious scene at a dinner table where he tried to play footsie and she basically kicked him, but quickly realized that she was acting like a jealous woman and had a good cry. The two get back on good terms, with Jamie and Claire conspiring to get that boy from being nailed to the post free, their romp through the ruins where they found the plant that was poisoning people, and then him reciting that folktale. *swoon*

-Another pairing I’m loving is Claire and Geillis Duncan. You can totally tell Geillis knows something is up (much like some other townsfolk) but she’s so charismatic and probably the only woman who is on the same level and playing field as Claire. I am totally looking forward to their team ups.

-Finally, I liked how realistic the big case of the episode felt and what the character’s reactions were. Claire was understandably miffed at folks automatically assuming the boy was possessed and the Friar, who was an asshole, was firmly on the side of religion. Claire’s skills in medicine certainly aid in her survival but it’s also a thorn in her side. Saving a boy is wonderful but if you’re a woman who wants to escape, you should probably lay low. It will be interesting to see how she deals with folks now that she’s known and she wants to escape.
