This week on Penny Dreadful, we finally see what Dorian and Lily have been up to by setting their plans in motion…while Jekyll shows Victor a glimpse of what he can do in order to get Lily back. Vanessa continues her therapy sessions with Dr. Seward…while danger lures her way and Sir Malcolm along with Kaetenay are on the search of Ethan…as he gets help from a recent foe.
Dorian (Reeve Carney) and Lily (Billie Piper) go to some type of undisclosed location and a man greets them…they give him money and go inside where other men are sitting down about to watch this show of a girl being tortured while these men take pleasure in viewing…all of a sudden Dorian and Lily started killing everyone in the room and after the massacre, Lily goes over to the frightened girl and tells her that she now belongs to her.
Back in New Mexico, Inspector Rusk is getting chewed at by the Federal Marshall wanting to know what happened with the prisoner and Rusk tells him that he will stay here until Ethan is hanged and that he will search for him and knows he is heading to Talbot Range…all this while Hecate has been listening in as she leaves with a smile in her face.
Vanessa (Eva Green) is back for her next therapy session…Renfield greets her and tells her that after her session that she needs to fill out some documentation, because of course this is lie and all he wants is to get the 411 on her to give it to Dracula…since he is now his minion. Vanessa goes inside and Dr. Seward (Patti LuPone) comes out and tells her that she is going to record their session. Dr. Seward asks Vanessa if she has ever sinned and she tells her she has and how she betrayed her best friend Mina…she starts getting uncomfortable, but proceeds telling the doctor her whole story of everything that has happened to her.
Victor (Harry Treadaway) and Jekyll (Shazad Latif) are having breakfast while discussing their plans in how to get Lily back to how she was before she went all rogue. Victor wants Jekyll to take him to his lab and tells him that he works in Bedlam. They go inside and Jekyll tells him how they keep the most violent patients sedated until they have no use for them anymore. They go inside Jekyll’s lab and it’s amazing! In the middle there is a barber’s chair that Victor notices and Jekyll tells him how he has modified it to his use. Victor knows that he needs to bring Lily here, but will it work…Jekyll tells him that it is possible…and Victor tells him to show him what he can do.
We go back to Vanessa as she is saying how she doesn’t know who she is meant to be as she has been crying her eyes out…Dr. Seward looks her and tells her they will find their way through this and tells Vanessa to do something that will make her happy. After Vanessa leaves we see how affected Dr. Seward was by Vanessa’s tale…I am seriously thinking that she is Joan Clayton resurrected.
Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton) and Kaetenay (Wes Studi) are on a ship heading towards the Americas and we get some insight of Ethan’s past with Kaetenay, he tells Sir Malcolm how Ethan spilled the blood of his family and how he thought it would be crueler to let him live. Sir Malcolm understands that exact feeling since it happened with Vanessa, but how now they have stopped wounding each other and there is love between them now of some kind. Kaetenay tells Malcolm that it is time they speak to their son and he communicates with him and this scene is just wonderful in how it was filmed. Ethan (Josh Hartnett) is asleep and wakes up to see Kaetenay and he wants to kill him (something definitely happened between these two) he asks Ethan where is and tells him they are taking him to his father’s…he finally wakes up and Kaetenay tells Sir Malcolm that he knows that they are coming for him.
Vanessa goes back to visit Dr. Sweet (Christian Camargo) where is he giving a lecture and exchange flirty glances at each other. They converse where they get to know each other a bit better and tells him how glad she is that she came to visit him once again…he mentions that he gives lectures every Wednesday and bids her adieu as she smiles…looking happy.
The girl that Dorian and Lilly rescued wakes up and sees the pair dancing as she heads towards them…Lily welcomes the girl to her new home and how now she is allowed to have a new life at whatever the cost…the monumental revenge since Lily can relate to her because she can see herself in this young girl. At Jekyll’s lab they have taken one of the lunatics and Jekyll prepares a syringe and injects him as the lunatic now looks like a normal man…and Victor is astonished.
Dr. Sweet receives a post and it’s from Vanessa that has asked for him to meet her if he is up for an adventure…which he does and it’s showing of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. As we see Renfield alone listening to Vanessa’s recording and looking joyful since now he can report back to Dracula. Ethan is at a bar with his captor and he runs into a woman that knows him…Ethan asks where is Kaetenay, but the woman doesn’t know…he tells her to leave the room as she blesses him as he calls her mother…there is a full moon and things are about to get really hairy. Ethan transforms and Hecate appears in her Nightcomer form and helps Ethan in slaughtering his captor and his men and tells Ethan how much she has missed him. Vanessa and Dr. Sweet are walking out of the show…and she asks him if he wants to have some coffee, but he declines and kisses her hand telling her that he hopes to see her at his next lecture.
It’s night and Victor is sitting alone on a bench and from across he is watching Lily through the window and part of me is like why Victor why? She spots him and she goes over to him she tells him that he shouldn’t be here and that he needs to leave. Victor tells her that he needs to save her…that he is responsible for her and that he created her. Lily tells Victor that she needs no man to save her and tells him that she thinks in some way that she created him than him creating her and kisses him. Lily mentions that he will recover from this first love and she tells him not to come back, because he will not like what she is becoming and Victor is left heartbroken.
Vanessa arrives home and she starts writing to Sir Malcolm telling him how she has taken quite an interest in zoology and how she misses him and that she is doing well and now she can say she is content. Renfield has made his way to Dracula’s lair to inform him of Vanessa…Dracula asks Renfield to kneel and we finally see the face of Dracula and it’s none other than Dr. Sweet…seriously poor Vanessa and her luck with men.
