We have reached the end of this story with our night crew that we have come to know over the past three years…I thought this would be a season finale for Penny Dreadful, like every other time when we reach this point of the show, but alas we get a definitive end…the chapter of this story concludes for our characters. Hence, here we go one last time.
In the penultimate episode of Penny Dreadful, we see the ramifications of Vanessa accepting Dracula’s kiss. Ethan, Sir Malcolm & Kaetenay arrive to an abandoned London covered in fog. Lily tells Victor something about her past…while Dorian finally gets a bit of revenge.
This week on Penny Dreadful, we finally see what Dorian and Lily have been up to by setting their plans in motion…while Jekyll shows Victor a glimpse of what he can do in order to get Lily back. Vanessa continues her therapy sessions with Dr. Seward…while danger lures her way and Sir Malcolm along with Kaetenay are on the search of Ethan…as he gets help from a recent foe.
“To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield” these are the words of the poet Alfred Lord Tennyson, who the episode is named after in the season premiere of Penny Dreadful. Last season, things were left off in a very desolate place with our characters disbanding and going their separate ways. We come back to find what some of these characters have been doing since we last saw them…and I think it’s safe to say that things aren’t well for them…we meet some new faces and that last scene in the premiere was just fantastic and I cannot wait to see how this new story unfolds.
This week are learn from flashbacks how Vanessa came to be who she is now with the help of someone called the Cut-Wife of Ballentree Moor, we learn that the past never leaves us no matter how hard we try and how it is who we are like Sembene once told Vanessa. And can I just say that Patti LuPone was just fantastic in this episode! So let’s begin because something wicked this way comes.
