The Emmy nominations were announced this morning and naturally I have thoughts. I shared my favorites of the 2017-2018 season here. You can view the full list at this link. Lets dig into the Emmy analysis.

The Good
-Jeffrey Wright, Issa Rae, and Sandra Oh landing lead acting nominations. All three gave really great performances and it’s nice to see the Emmys reward their diverse work. ALso, Sandra is now the first Asian actress to be nominated for Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

-RAMIN DJAWADI GOT NOMINATED FOR MUSIC COMPOSITION FOR GAME OF THRONES.

-Loved seeing The Alienist get major nominations, that show was so good.

The Bad
-Stranger Things season 2 was good yet divisive, but how has it cast such a spell on the TV Academy that it managed a series nod in such a competitive year?

-Though its always competitive, the following actors and shows missing hurts: Tahar Rahim, Claws, Santa Clarita Diet, Kit Harrington, Jodie Cormer, and Killing Eve in Drama Series.

The Ugly

-I 100% agree with my former colleague Sam Coffey that the inclusion of Saturday Night Live cast members into the Supporting Comedy races has run its course. I mean congrats to Keenan Thompson or whatever but good grief they hog the categories they technically shouldn’t be in.

-The Spoils of War is one of the best Game of Thrones episodes of all time…so how in the hell did it not get nominated for Director or Cinematography???

-Manhunt Unabomber should have been nominated in Limited Series and Worthington should be cackwalking his way to an Emmy win.

– I knew Claws, my favorite show of last year, would have an uphill climb to the Emmys, but how did it not get nomianted for costumes?
