Girls Recap Episode 4.10 “Home Birth” (Season Finale)

Here we are again with the season being over, we almost witnessed a home birth…saw a couple of confessions from some of our characters and also felt that finally these girls made some decisions for the better good, because I have often felt while watching this season that they weren’t going anywhere or did the same repetitive things while the guys are the ones that have changed and also where was Elijah?

We begin with Hannah (Lena Dunham), she is walking outside the school and believes she is having a panic attack because she can’t breathe…Fran (Jake Lacy) comes outside to comfort her. Hannah tells him that a lot of things are going on with her family and is not ready with some of the issues that are currently happening…which is her dad being gay. Fran massages her back and asks if this is okay and she says yes…I’ll be honest I am really enjoying watching these two together.

At some company called Abigail, Shosh (Zosia Mamet) is at another interview talking about how helping out with Ray’s campaign has helped her improve as a person and is ready to take on big things. The person conducting the interview offers her the job because the current position holder is bipolar and as soon as she has an episode they are going to fire her. The job is about marketing and social media and Shosh is super thrilled, but one thing the job is in Japan.

Hannah is heading home when she hears some moans coming from Laird’s apartment and he (Jon Glaser) opens the door and mentions that he and Caroline are celebrating the home birth of their child.  He mentions that the baby is a month early and Hannah tells him she doesn’t think this is legal. On the other side of town at the coffee shop Marnie (Allison Williams) and Desi (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) are with Marcos (Spike Jonze, very nice surprise) who we find out is their label’s president. They are talking about a gig they will be having and also about marriage while Ray is looking at them from afar. Desi goes up to Ray (Alex Karpovsky) to pay the bill and wants to ask him a question that if him and Ray are solid because he senses some tension between them. Ray goes off on him and tells him that he freaking hates him and I was like yes! Go Ray go! About time you read Desi for filth! Ray tells him that they are different because he would never treat Marnie like crap and that he doesn’t deserve her…I was so happy during this scene because Desi sure as hell doesn’t deserve her.

Shosh is having lunch with Scott (Jason Ritter), she tells him she got a job but that it is in Japan. Scott tells her to not take it and that she can work for him and also move in and he’s in love with her…I was like what? How the heck is this guy in love so fast…Shosh you better wake up. Back in Laird’s apartment Adam (Adam Driver) storms in the apartment mad and tells Caroline (Gaby Hoffman) that this home birth is a dumb idea and both of them start arguing. Shosh goes looking for Ray because she wants advice on this new job, but finds Hermie (Colin Quinn) and she mentions to him that she isn’t sure she wants to take this job in Japan, but Hermie tells her that she needs to “Be the walker, not the dog” and that she needs to take the job.

Jessa (Jemima Kirke) comes over to Laird’s apartment and Caroline is writhing in pain and that something is wrong and Jessa mentions that they need to call an ambulance because the baby is breached. Caroline is not having it but she gets no choice in the matter when all four of them carry her and walk to the hospital.

Marnie is calling Desi, but he is not picking up…Marcos is hoping that he isn’t dead. More time passes Marcos can’t believe this is happening and is disappointed that Desi is still a no show and Marnie starts crying. Ray shows up and tells them that Marnie can do it by herself and she can keep the music alive. She performs by herself and Ray just watches her (my shipper heart).

At the hospital, Caroline has given birth to a baby girl named Jessa-Hannah (it’s a real long name guys Laird mentions to them) and Adam, Hannah, and Jessa look so happy. Jessa goes home and mentions to Shosh that she is going to become a therapist and Shosh mentions that she’s going to Japan. Marnie after finishing her performance goes over to Ray and tells him that was the scariest thing she had ever done (I really hope next season these two reconnect).

Adam and Hannah are visiting his niece Jessa-Hannah and he mentions to Hannah that him and Mimi-Rose are done that he never really knew her and that he was confused and made a mistake. He tells Hannah that he misses her and man this scene with these two had me all emotional because Adam Driver and Lena Dunham have this great chemistry that plays well onscreen. He tries to take her hand but she doesn’t grab his…he wants to be with her again but Hannah tells him that she can’t do that. Hannah is on the phone with Loreen (Becky Ann Baker) and wants to know if everything is okay…she tells Hannah that she still has a future and that she shouldn’t waste her life on one man like she did and Tad (Peter Scolari) is right there next to her and Hannah wants to talk to him…and the screen fades to black.

Six months later have passed and we see two people walking together in the snow and it’s Hannah and Fran looking happy together, so it’s seems Hannah has taken her mother’s advice after all. And that’s it folks until season 5.
