Girls Recap Episode 5.04 “Old Loves”

This week on Girls, we start seeing the deterioration of two couples…while seeing the emergence of two other couples…one of them finally giving in to their desires…and the other well sparks flew let’s just say. So let’s jump right in with the episode.

We begin with Hannah (Lena Dunham) and Fran (Jake Lacy) and he sees the graded papers from Hannah’s students on the table and by pure teacher’s instinct pulls out the red pen and starts correcting them…Hannah wants to know what he is doing and tells her a lot of the grammar is wrong, but she totally minds that he is doing that and gets upset with him.

Marnie (Allison Williams) is heading to her apartment and all her neighbors look upset with her and is wondering what is going on…she starts hearing all these construction noises coming from her apartment and of course it’s Desi (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and other people making this wall right smack in the middle of the apartment. Desi tells her that he made this for her because she needed more space and now Marnie upset tells him she has less space now. Per usual these two start arguing and Marnie tells Desi that he made this wall because he did it for himself (of course he did…you should know this by now since you married him) and she storms off angry.

Jessa (Jemima Kirke) is at an AA meeting, but it’s all women’s meeting as we find out because Adam (Adam Driver) walks in and the person talking tells him this…when the meeting is over Adam is waiting for Jessa. He wants to know why she is attending meetings in Tribeca and not answering his texts. Jessa tells him that he needs to chill and to stop stalking her, Adam frustrated tells her loudly why is she avoiding him and she straight out tells him it’s a bad idea because of Hannah…he tells her that if the shoe was on the other foot Hannah wouldn’t be doing the same thing that Jessa is doing, she calls her a pussy and walks away.

Ray (Alex Karpovsky) is off staring at his competition, Helvetica…while he calls off to Elijah (Andrew Rannells) asking him if he even cares about how his world is crumbling at the moment and Elijah says he cares a little…while checking himself out to see if he has any lower back hair since he has a date with Dill Harcourt and he wants his “lower back to make a good impression” Ray is just completely unimpressed.

At the school, Hannah has finished teaching her class and one of her students walks over to her and wants to know what happened to her poem. Hannah walks into Fran’s classroom saying that she needs answers…both start arguing in front of the student and Hannah wants Fran to apologize for correcting that girl’s paper (really Hannah?) the girl walks away and then Fran tells Hannah that sometimes she is just too much and goes back to teaching his class.

Hannah goes to Jessa’s apartment and Marnie is there too…Hannah asks Marnie what she is doing and she tells her she is looking at Old Loves on Tumblr (basically couples that used to be together, but are no longer) Hannah starts venting about her argument with Fran…and Marnie tells her to please not mess up what she has with Fran, because he’s good guy. Hannah tells her that she feels that Fran judges her and Marnie comes to the realization that this is exactly what she is doing to Desi and that she needs to go home and apologize to him (oh Marnie *sigh*)

Elijah and Dill (Corey Stoll) are on their date and Elijah is extremely nervous to be around someone so famous that everyone likes…they make small talk and sparks are definitely flying between these two. Meanwhile back with Marnie and Desi…she comes to apartment with Desi acting like a complete idiot as per usual tearing down the wall saying that his ideas are always stupid (yes they are) and Marnie consoles him saying that they aren’t…seriously I just feel this is just such a toxic relationship *sigh*

Hannah and Jessa have gone out to have some rice pudding and Jessa tells Hannah that she used to have some interesting ideas before and now all she does is rot her mind by looking at websites…saying that’s maybe the reason she stopped writing. Hannah feels that something is going on and wants to know what is wrong…Jessa upset tells her that everyone always needs to drop everything for her when something happens and she needs support. Hannah tells her she is acting weird and then walks out the door and then walks back in again to tell Jessa that she is the biggest bitch she’s ever met in her whole life and storms off.

Elijah and Dill are at Times Square and they are having a wonderful time…we see people coming up to Dill wanting selfies with him and then Dill kisses Elijah and he’s thrilled. Jessa goes over to Adam’s place…he opens the door and Jessa tells him the thing that is wrong is them…she looks upset and Adam notices that she is shaking (well yeah after what happened with Hannah and her) they start kissing and have sex and boy was this sex scene so awkward…Adam asks her if this what bad sex looks like? Jessa says yes and both start laughing. Meanwhile things are sure heating up between Elijah and Dill, who are also having sex and it’s a little bit awkward with the way Dill wants Elijah to do things.

Hannah and Fran are grading papers and both are silent and not talking to each other while Fran turns around to her wanting to saying something but doesn’t. Elijah is looking out the amazing view from Dill’s place and Jessa is looking at a sleeping Adam as she lays her head on his chest and that’s it folks until next week.
