It was about time HBO decided to let us know when my beloved Game of Thrones would come back. At TCA’s today the cable network announced that the show will return on April 6, the same night as their other wonderful series Veep and new show Silicon Valley. Should make for a heck of a night. The network will also premiere the trailer for Game of Thrones this Sunday at 8:55 pm before HBO miniseries True Detective. Peep the press release.
Television has certainly been in a golden age, with every matter of show and network stepping up their game to present complicated characters, interesting situations and dazzling visual work. The Emmy nominations are set to be announced tomorrow and many of the same shows that we know and love will show up. But instead of doing predictions, I thought it would be more fun to envision what I would vote for if I had an Emmy ballot. This is based on shows/tv movies/miniseries that ran from June 1,2012-May 31st 2013 to comply with the Emmy calendar. Check out my sample ballot!
Summer is almost upon us which means that all of the fall and spring shows have ended or are ending soon and a new crop of shows is ready to take it’s place (like Teen Wolf and True Blood). Looking back on the season, not much really stood out in terms of appointment TV. Many returning shows like Revenge tried to expand too widely while new shows like The Mindy Project were very uneven. This all led to a Fall/Spring season that while enjoyable, was rarely the remarkable thing we expect from TV these days. But luckily there were some shows that managed to stay above the fray. Peep my top 10 from the Fall/Spring season!
