Film Review: Captain Phillips

I’ve tried to figure out how to begin this Captain Phillips review for a good minute. I had quippy headlines, opening sentences about my experience, everything. But how does one begin to talk about this film that manages to both be claustrophobic and wide open, emotional yet terse, simple yet complex? It might be best to keep it simple and say that Captain Phillips is one of the best films I’ve seen this year.

Lee Daniels Wants to Make a Gay Action Film Starring Alex Pettyfer

Things have been slow going here at the blog because of some server issues (or the CH stans who got mad at those photos I posted lol) but the world has continued on. Lord has it been a mess, a highly entertaining mess, but a mess nonetheless. And of all the things I thought could have happened, one of the biggest surprises would have to be Lee Daniels announcing that he wants to make an action film with a gay interracial couple as the leads. He also mentions that he’s tapped Alex Pettyfer to be the white half of the interracial couple. So…now that you’ve re-read that a couple of times I have some thoughts.

TV Thoughts: American Horror Story: Coven 3.01 “Bitchcraft”

Our waiting has finally paid off! American Horror Story: Coven came and graced our screens today and good God in heaven was it an amazing episode. Ryan Murphy and company returned to slay all of us in our homes with an episode so good I can’t even wrangle my thoughts (though you know I’ll try). There was a lot of stuff that happened in this episode so lets break it down shall we!

Listen to songs from Cory Monteith tribute episode of ‘Glee’

The Glee tribute episode for Cory Monteith is a few days away but thanks to tumblr user fyeahgleeclub, we’re able to get our first listen at the tracks that will be featured in the episode. They’re all as emotional as expected but I particularly love their rendition of Seasons of Love. Check them out after the jump.

Film Review: Gravity

There are moments in Gravity that truly remind you of the power of movies as a medium. Alfonso Cuaron’s space survival epic was built to just wow and the big screen and wow it does, bringing the kind of intensity and wonder that you hope every movie would. But for all of that intensity and virtuoso filmmaking, there’s something that just doesn’t quite connect. It makes for an interesting contrast that the film doesn’t quite manage to make work.

More Television Thoughts: Scandal Season 3 Premiere

It’s back! I mean its been EONS since Scandal graced my television but the addictive series and best drama on TV finally returned with a solid episode that included some great twists, turns and performances. In lieu of doing full recaps (because Thursdays are exhausting) I figured I’d give my brief thoughts on the happenings each week. So here they are.
