Hey y’all, how’s it going? I’m currently in sunny San Diego taking in the sites and sounds of Comic-Con. So what better time than when I’m sleep deprived, running on a tight schedule, and hungry to stat a new series at the blog! Given that I’ve somehow managed to gain the public trust on Tumblr and people send me asks, I thought it would be easy to aggregate them there for people who don’t follow me there. Although you totally should follow me at lenoirauteur.tumblr.com cause it’s where my inner foolishness comes out. Anyways, this week’s asks cover a possible plot of Derek losing his alpha status, Stydia, and other ramblings. Take a gander!
*stares blankly at the carnage* I don’t…I can’t even begin to think of how to address this episode of Teen Wolf. Like I thought I was done with soul crushing deaths on TV but nope Jeff Davis said he could bring me back to that horrible place. Let’s just dive into the recap.
We have reached the halfway point of the 1st 12 episodes of this 3rd season of Teen Wolf and my word did they mollywhop us with “Motel California.” Micah and I are back to recap one of the best hours of Teen Wolf ever, breaking down the highs and lows of what happens when our beloved characters head to a creepy motel and Derek finds love lust in a hopeless place. We also chat about some fun fan theories and take stock of where the season has gone so far. Be sure to listen the whole way through, there’s a surprise at the end. Dig in!
Never, in all of the history of Teen Wolf, has an episode been so hyped as “Motel California.” We were told it would be dark, make us cry and scream, and is the first episode in 3 seasons to receive a Viewers Discretion tag at the front of it. And man did it live up to the creepiness. Tonight’s episode showed what happens when people stop being polite and start experiencing really creepy shit.
I am assuming, by now at least, you all have attempted to read the lengthy article written at the Daily Dot about why slashtivism, particularly Sterek slash shipping, is hurting Teen Wolf fans. It’s a ballsy piece stating the definitions of slash, how Teen Wolf fits in, and why the author thinks it’s problematic for the Sterek shippers to take over a show. After making my way through this article, some thoughts formulated in my mind so here they are.
This is a podcast I thought we’d get to way down the line but with some pretty big developments and recent events we decided to finally tackle something big, Sterek. In this minisode, Micah and I try to put aside the seemingly vicious discourse and have a measured and thoughtful conversation regarding Sterek as a ship, the viability of it happening on the show, and take a good hard look at the various sides of the fandom reactions to the possibility of Sterek. This is not mean to serve as the end all be all for the conversation surrounding Sterek but we hope it will serve as a jumping off point to maybe a more social conscious conversation using a critical eye.
