Emotions were high in this episode, Hannah came back from Iowa and wasn’t expecting Adam to have moved on so fast…Hannah’s friends came to her aid and each gave her some advice that she may or may have not listened to…we saw a pair of returning faces and we had a very real and heartbreaking talk with Hannah and Adam. So let’s begin shall we.
We return with Hannah (Lena Dunham) still in shock about finding out that Adam (Adam Driver) has moved on with Mimi-Rose (Gillian Jacobs) and Hannah has no intention of leaving the apartment. Mimi-Rose tells them that she was going to get some cold-pressed juice and if anyone wants anything…the look Hannah gives her is just like bitch please like are you really asking me if I want some juice…she leaves and Adam asks Hannah if she is okay (really Adam? are you seriously asking her this right now of course she isn’t okay) that he would have warned her beforehand about everything…he mentions to Hannah that all her stuff is gone and it’s now in storage unit in Fort Greene. Hannah goes into her room and locks the door.
Adam is trying to get a hold of Marnie, but can’t reach her and Shosh (Zosia Mamet) comes over to talk to Hannah telling her that they will get through this together and they decide to google Mimi-Rose to see what she does…they find out she’s an artist and also find a video of her visiting a college and giving a lecture. Hannah tells Shosh that she is okay and wants to be left alone, so she leaves and Jessa (Jemima Kirke) has already arrived too and gets mad at Adam that he didn’t call her first. Jessa goes inside the room already knowing about Adam and Mimi-Rose and tells Hannah that she swears she remembers mentioning it to her and starts telling Hannah that she hadn’t spoken to Mimi-Rose in a while and Hannah realizes that Jessa is the one that set them up. Jessa mentions to her that Adam is happy and Hannah super upset calls her a f-ing bitch (and really who wouldn’t because what the hell Jessa!)
Hannah is calling Marnie and still no one can get a hold of her…probably shacking it up with Desi (oh Marnie). Hannah hears voices outside the room and it’s Caroline (Gaby Hoffman) and Laird (Jon Glaser) it’s great to see these two oddballs and since last time Caroline is about to pop with her and Laird’s child. They mention that Adam and Mimi-Rose are staying the night at their apartment and then Caroline talks to Hannah saying that Adam seems happy and that he’s always trying to nurture the poor and damaged and that is why she liked Hannah so much. She and Laird give Hannah a group hug and even in the process offer a threesome proposition to her…I swear Caroline and Laird are just such great characters…they always bring something to the table.
Ray (Alex Karpovsky) is cooking breakfast and Hannah walks out and Ray hugs her telling her that he is sorry for what Adam did to her and then he starts ranting on and on about the noise pollution problem he’s been having and how something needs to be done about it. Hannah burns her hand turning over the bacon Ray was cooking and he takes her of the burn and Hannah mentions if he has heard from Marnie and he says no, but that she is probably with the Mumford or Son (hahaha this made me chuckle). Ray puts a glove on the hand that Hannah burned and tells her she’s all good to go.
Hannah is watching the college visiting lecture video with Mimi-Rose, when Marnie (Allison Williams) finally shows up with some comfort food and tries to talk to Hannah, but she goes into the bathroom saying she needs to take a shower but is actually watching that video again. Marnie comes in and tells Hannah that she needs to let Adam go because if she doesn’t that he is going to resent her for not letting him find out on his own and leaves Hannah pondering about it.
Adam comes back to the apartment and sees that Hannah is carrying her suitcase and is about to leave and Adam notices the glove she has on her hand and she mentions the burning incident…Adam checks on her hand and is going to take care of it and clean it up and in the process both have a very emotional talk about what has happened. This scene between them made me tear up because I really love these two together. She mentions to Adam that she never would have thought that someone would replace her and Adam mentions that he was sort of relieved when she had left to Iowa, but what they had was real and that he did love her. I swear Lena and Adam were just amazing in this scene…whew! I got teary-eyed.
Hannah goes to the storage unit that Adam had gotten for her and sees all her stuff inside…she moves something that was on her couch and then she just lays down on the couch and that’s it folks end of the episode.

Jessa is seriously the nastiest character on this show. Setting up Adam with Mimi-Rose (presumably to get back at Hannah for LEAVING FOR GRAD SCHOOL) is so incredibly low. I can see why Jessa’s friend Season pretended that she was dead just so that she could be out of her life. Aside from Jessa’s hair, she really has no worthwhile qualities.
It’s sad to see that despite all of the awful ways Jessa has been disrespectful to Hannah and every single person on the show since the first episode, she shows up in the preview for next week, having dinner with them all like nothing happened. If this was real life and not fiction, Hannah (and Marnie / Shosh / everyone) would have dumped her as a friend long ago. Deserved.
It was kinda shocking finding out that Jessa was the one that set up Adam and Mimi-Rose, and it does seem like she is getting back at Hannah for leaving her. Sometimes I just don’t get Jessa…like there are times I see how broken she is and it makes me want to see more of the character and I feel for her, but other times she really can be awful person. I think out of all the girls she is the biggest mystery. Also thank you for the comment.
I agree, I have tried to make excuses for Jessa in the past, maybe she’s misunderstood but what she did to Hannah in this episode is horrible. If she’s angry at Hannah for going to Iowa, what about the time she ditched Hannah when Hannah went with her to visit her father? And then not bother to contact Hannah for the longest time after that? Jessa has no right to be angry with Hannah for going to Iowa, in fact, she should be so thankful that aside from Shoshanna, Hannah is the only one who treated her like a friend when Marnie, Elijah, Adam and Ray saw how awful she was as a person from the very beginning.
Very true, she did leave Hannah alone that time they went to visit her father and I agree Hannah has always been there for Jessa regardless of the situation. Still trying to figure out why she would do this to Hannah, her excuse being that she thought that Hannah would be away at grad school for 2 years like really? So it’s okay to set up your friend’s boyfriend with someone you know…I seriously don’t know what goes through Jessa’s mind most of the time.
