What is the Likelihood of McConaughey and Leto Winning Oscars? (My favorite piece of the week)
Since 1988, there have been 30 instances where the actor and supporting actor for the same film were nominated. This year, Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto are hoping to make it 31 films as both are in contention for Oscar nominations. With that, I decided to take a look at the past 25 years in Oscar to see what might bear out this year for these actors.
Will Short Term 12 Land a Best Original Son Nomination?
The music branch of the Academy is one hard nut to crack. Every time you think you have a beat on what they’ll consider and nominate they’ll throw a wrench in your predictions. Hoping to capitalize on this is Short Term 12, which has the haunting “So You Know What It’s Like,” written by Keith Stanfield, in consideration for Best Original Song. It wouldn’t be the first time the Academy honored a rap song, but such a track surely has an uphill battle against easier digestible fare…or does it?
Always An Oscar Bridesmaid…Till This Year?
The New Year is almost upon us and several Oscar contenders are hoping that with the new year comes new Oscar fortunes. Being overdue is a concept many trot out during the awards season, so I decided to take a look at some of the people in the race with multiple nominations that could possibly be shedding the Oscar bridesmaid label.
Film Review: Of Horses and Men
Submitted for Oscar’s Foreign Language category, the Icelandic film Of Horses and Men missed the shortlist for this year’s Oscars. That miss however doesn’t speak to the quality of this film. Told as a series of interconnecting stories involving a small town and their relationship with horses, a stunning film that plays like a book of short stories come to life. It’s a film with a timeless qualities and a strong story, and is certainly one of the best foreign language films to have screened this year.
Top 25 Most Anticipated Films of 2014
Happy New Year everyone ! I hope that you had a fun night wherever you were and are enjoying 2014 in its infancy. We are just two weeks away from the Oscars announcing their nominees for the best of 2013. However, today I’m casting my gaze at the film year of 2014. So without further ado, here are my top 25 most anticipated films of 2014.

10 Pre-Fall Releases with the Best Oscar Chances
The PGA nominations were announced yesterday and while many of the films we expected to be there made it, an interesting stat came to the forefront. Blue Jasmine was the only film released before October that managed to pick up a nomination. Everyone knows that the later release dates tend to bear out Oscar seeking films, but to only have one pre-October release is very telling. So today, I decided to look at all of the pre-fall releases (ie. before September) and see which films might be successful with Oscar.
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: PGA and WGA Nominations
Awards season is fun isn’t it? Just when you think you have a handle on what will happen, the guilds weigh in and change that. My Oscar predictions will be updated on Sunday, but with the PGA and WGA announcing their nominees, I figured we could use a bit of introspection before the update.
