Fall’s here. The leaves are changing and…it’s time for Oscar season to start ramping up 🙂
1. How will the summer fare?
Will the summer didn’t have many Best Picture fire starters (other than Tree of Life, The Help, and Midnight in Paris), there are plenty of summer films that could score multiple nominations.
2. Festival Chatter?
Festivals are great. They offer an easy to see many great film and can often be a boon to an Oscar campaign. The Descendants, The Artist, and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy have seen their stock rise from working the festival circuit. Consequently, A Dangerous Method has seen its stock plummet and The Ides of March was met with less warmth oversees than it thought it would be.
3. How will “smart” movies play?
Moneyball has been rapturously received by critics and Tinker Tailor is getting lots of buzz, but how will their focus on smart storytelling play later in the year? I’ve often felt like the smarter the film, the more $$$ it needs to make in order to gain enough momentum for an Oscar nom.
