The TTE Film Awards are ramping up now, and will more than likely be finished next week hopefully be completed by the weekend. There is nothing but wonderfulness left in store now that we’ve gotten past the 10 worst movies of the year. Creating a top 10 movie list is such a heartbreaking endeavor, you end up having to cut out films you might have enjoyed, which is what the list below is. It hurt to leave them off but at least they are getting some acknowledgement. Here at the “Near Misses” aka films # 11-15.
15. Melancholia: Impeccably shot and wonderfully acted, this appocalypse as a metaphor for depression would have been higher were it not for the two clashing halves of the film. But Kirsten Dunst’s amazing performance as a depressed bride and the beautiful cinematography more than make up for any plot deficienies.
14. Contagion: This slick, emotionally distant thriller about an outbreak is a fascinating character study. The cast is aces, even as Oscar winners get dispatched left and right. Loved the ending scenes that explained how it all began.
13. Ides of March: Politics is always juicy and director George Clooney manegs to shine a lens on both Republicans and Democraats. Ryan Gosling and Evan Rachel Wood are marvelous.
12. X-Men: Editing problems keep this movie from making the top 10, but it’s enjoyable nonetheless. Fassbender and McAvoy’s bromantic chemistry leaps off the screen.
11. Crazy Stupid Love: It’s on this list for that backyard bruhaha alone. Touching, hilarious, and a great look into modern relationships.
