Whew and just like that the 2012-2013 TV season is over. The Emmys were last night, crowning one of the best seasons in TV history in one of the wildest shows you’ll ever see. There were upsets galore and terrible twerking jokes and weird choices all over the place and so I’ve decided to break down the highlights here.
The Good
-Anna Gunn winning for Breaking Bad. All of the Skyler haters can suck it now that she’s won the Emmy.
-30 Rock winning for writing. Only because that was my ballsiest prediction that came true.
-The Upsets. It’s good for an awards show if you have some surprises and the awards were genuinely exciting because you didn’t know who would take the trophy next.
-Merritt Weaver’s moment. I loved how she was so surprised that she could barely speak and just offered a couple thank yous and said she had to go.
-Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, Tony Hale and Anna Chlumsky. The Veep trio made the most of Julia’s win by acting like they were in character. Anna texting in the audience was hilarious but I DIED at Tony reminding Julia to thank her family.
The Bad
-That opening montage. With the exception of the House of Cards reference, the opening to this show was TERRIBLE.
-The Upsets. Did every other award have to be an upset? I have no idea how this past TV season warranted some of these wins. Jeff Daniels? Bobby Canavale? James Cromwell?
-Laura Linney winning Best Actress in a Miniseries/Movie. The Awards Season Thief that is Laura Linney struck again last night, beating Jessica Lange, ELizabeth Moss, and Sigourney Weaver for her award.
-The In Memoriam sections. They just didn’t really work.
The Ugly
-My Emmy Predictions: Never, in all my life, have I EVER done this bad predicting winners. I mean good God I only got like 6 or 7 right the entire night. Just terrible.
-Sarah Paulson not winning. I love me some Ellen Burstyn but you gon have to explain me how she managed to win this award over the brilliant work Paulson did on American Horror Story this past season.
