Well the 2014 Creative Arts Emmys have come and gone and I honestly don’t know whether I learned anything or discovered anything new. However, i can’t say these awards weren’t fun to follow and talk about. But lawd they have me tired. Anyways, here’s some analysis.
The Good
-I did 35/77 in my predictions. And before you scoff, I barely even thought about my predictions and I don’t watch 3/4 of the shows listed lol I was glad I was able to call the two COSMOS music wins, the win for Black Sails in Visual Effects in a Supporting role, as well as many other ones.
-Uzo Aduba won an Emmy! So did Allison Janney! I am so very happy for both women as they are both awesome as hell and well deserving.
-Adam Arkapaw from True Detective winning a cinematography Emmy. Though it is in the wrong category, there is no element more deserving of a win from that show than the cinematography. The episode it won for was the one with that amazing long take.
-Between Two Ferns with President Obama winning an Emmy is the best thing. Just the best.
The Bad
-There. Are. Too. Many. Categories. Why lord did I have to do predictions for 77 categories? It’s too murch, TV Academy.
-I don’t know if this is a bad, so much as weird, but having The Square be eligible for the Emmys and the Oscars is strange. It won several awards tonight.
-The Sound of Music Live! winning any award with direction in the title is laughable at best.
-Now let it be known I, Terence Johnson, don’t feel this way, but The Normal Heart not sweeping techs is apparently doomsday for it. I mean this isn’t Behind the Candelabra with showy costumes, wigs, and prosthetic makeup for days. Losing editing is an intriguing sign tho. If anything, Fargo should be worrying that it lost many of the techs it was sure to win.
The Ugly
-How does Game of Thrones lose a stunt category ESPECIALLY when they submitted the Battle at Castle Black episode? That is a complete and utter mess.
