Here’s the recap of Outlander 1.04, better late than never!
This episode was about two major things, the gathering of the clans to pledge loyalty to the Mackenzies and Claire’s first big attempt at escaping. I enjoyed the episode even though I spent a good chunk not knowing wtf was going on. Here’s some other thoughts.
-The opening sequences of this show are just aces. I loved how the episode made it seem like someone was coming to attack the clans or that CLaire was being hunted down at the same time. Of course it was just a kid’s game and she’s having fun at the expense of the guys watching her, and doing reconissance (!) but it was still a pretty fun opening.
-Even though I think the voice over is effective, I do think they go to the voice over well a bit much to explain things we can clear see or a certain.
-This little girl who is sweet on Jamie…bless her heart. She really came to Claire for a love potion to get Jamie’s heart to turn. Girl you are barking up the wrong tree and you’d be better off trying to get with any other of the number of eligible bachelors in that damn kingdom.
-Claire’s plan to escape got ruined by some drunk clansmen but luckily, or not Dougal was there to save her which was nice till he made a pass at her! I was like lawd but I HOWLED in laughter when she hit his ass with that chair.
-So we have to talk about Jamie being a Mackenzie and possibly in line for the throne! 
I was so unable to deal with this and to make matters worse since him and Claire got found out he had to pledge allegiance to the Laird which could go one of two ways: Dougal would smite him down for daring to to going in the Laird contention or the clansmen would kill him for being disrespectful. Luckily Jamie is smart and said he pledges his honor but has no intention of going the frey. Whew lawd I was stressed. This made for a really fun and bruising game between Dougal and Jamie at the end of the episode.
-RIP Jordy. This was such a “random” death but damn those scenes worked.
-Speaking of scenes, we’re getting a change of it next week! Dougal, Jamie and Claire are on their way to collect taxes from folks. As much as I liked the castle, I’m dying to meet new clans and explore new areas and with those folks the fireworks are sure to fly.
