One of the casualties of the ridiculous schedule I had these past few months was my Outlander recaps. I powered through 7 of them but after time became nonexistent, I decided to save the mid season finale for when I had endless amounts of free time. I have to say that while the midseason finale didn’t bowl me over, it was nice to be back in the company of friends.
-I did wonder how Frank Randall was handling the loss of his wife and the episode showed just what he’d been doing in 1945. I am very much a Jamie/Claire stan but I do feel immensely for what Frank is going through. It was heartbreaking to see him go to those stones where Claire disappeared and break down, of course juxtaposed with Claire being captured at those same stones.
-Black Jack Randall continues to just be the worst most evil person ever, if his near rape of Claire was anything to go by. However I do love when he’s matching wits with Claire on an intellectual level and they’re just sparring.
-Jamie and Claire just went through it this episode…well more like Claire went through it and Jamie was there to assist a couple of times. Claire got nearly raped twice and ended up killing the first man who tried to rape her while Jamie cut the other assailants throat and popped up at the end to save her from Randall. Chile what will these two go through next season. On the light side, I howl any time the sexually inexperience Jaime tries to talk to Claire about their lovemaking. I love how Outlander stays true to her being a woman out of time, especially in this respect. Sam looks like such a lost boy when this happens.
-Maybe it’s because its been 3 months since I communed with the show but this finale felt slightly off. Like the connective tissue through many of the bigger moments just wasn’t engaging enough. I felt like someone kept trying to shake me every time something massive happened. Now, I say that to say that that final 10 minute stretch at the end and the final image is something that will stay with me through this crazy long hiatus.
