The wait is over, here we go again with Girls Season 4…the last time we saw these ladies; Hannah had been accepted to grad school in Iowa, Marnie was hooking up with Desi, Jessa was helping Beedie commit suicide, and Shoshanna wasn’t going to graduate on time. So let’s see what Lena and company have in store for us this season.
Hannah (Lena Dunham) is celebrating with her parents (Becky Ann Baker & Peter Scolari) as she is about to leave to Iowa, they are waiting on Adam (Adam Driver), but he is late…he finally arrives pissed off because he showed up to an audition as the wrong type of biker apparently they wanted a Tour de France biker, not a biker with a leather jacket. Hannah mentions to her parents that Adam’s agent also represents Norman Reedus. Everyone toasts to Hannah leaving to grad school and Adam makes this speech toasting to a “series of random steps” Clearly still not happy about Hannah going away.
Back at their apartment Hannah and Adam are watching his commercial for an anti-depressant called Torpica. He’s not happy with the commercial saying they cut off many parts that made the story cohesive and that people on the street tell him stuff about it. Hannah tells him that it was good and she also wants to talk about their plan on what will happen once she leaves, but he doesn’t want to talk about and just mentions that they will take it day to day and there’s no need to create drama.
Marnie (Allison Williams) and Desi (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) are having sex and holey moley to that scene!
Shosh (Zosia Mamet) is at the NYU offices and the clerk is telling her that she should expect her diploma in 6-8 weeks, her dad Melvin (Anthony Edwards) wants to take a pic and her mom Melinda (Ana Gasteyer) arrives and they start arguing right in front of Shosh and she just wants to leave.
Jessa (Jemima Kirke) goes to Beedie’s (Louise Lasser) apartment, where Rickie (Natasha Lyonne) Beedie’s daughter confronts Jessa telling her that she knows what Jessa did about helping her mom attempt suicide and that she is taking Beedie to her home in Connecticut and berates her saying that she needs to figure some crap out. Jessa doesn’t want Beedie to leave and asks Beedie to tell her that she loves her more than Rickie and she does.
The gang goes to see Marnie and Desi perform in their first ever “Jazz Brunch” we see Marnie’s mom again (Rita Wilson) and as Marnie is prepping for their performance Clementine (Natalie Morales) arrives and apologizes to Marnie for thinking she wanted to take Desi away (well she totally is so…just an awkward conversation between those two). Shosh and Adam are talking about people that he is up against for roles, Shosh mentions people like Zachary Quinto and Armie Hammer and Adam says he doesn’t know names, but that for the first time he wishes he could do something about the way he looks (love we are seeing this friendship continue between these two). Jessa arrives and Hannah asks her that she wanted to hang out before she left, but Jessa clearly looks annoyed. Hannah goes to the bathroom and Jessa goes inside and Hannah tells Jessa that she thinks that Adam will fall apart once she leaves…Jessa tells her that she’s being hypocritical because she’s leaving when Hannah asked her to stay and that she’s pussying out by leaving and not breaking up with Adam. Elijah (Andrew Rannells) joins the gang and sees his ex (Danny Strong, hey there Jonathan from Buffy). Ray (Alex Karpovsky) walks in and Shosh sees him and walks over to him wanting to apologize for her wanting to get back to together with him and she also mentions she graduated today. He says congrats to her and tells her “Welcome to the World” as she leaves.
Marnie starts singing a song she wrote for Hannah called “Onward/Inward” as she is singing all these kids are running around and yelling and Marnie upset storms off and Elijah goes outside to comfort her. She tells Elijah that there is no point in sharing her music and he tells her, “This business is not for sissy bitches” he mentions that Judy Garland and Lady Gaga are bad bitches that don’t give a f’ what people think about them. Elijah’s ex passes by them telling Marnie that she would make a great background artist like being a victim on a crime show, because she would be an amazing victim.
At the apartment Hannah is telling Adam if he is okay with her leaving some of her things here, he tells her yes because he loves living amongst her stuff. She mentions what’s the plan as she is leaving tomorrow and Adam just tells her that the plan is that there is no plan and Hannah agrees saying that’s plan then, afterwards they have sex and Hannah doesn’t seem to happy. The next morning someone is knocking at the door and it’s Marnie who brought Hannah coffee saying she couldn’t not say one last goodbye to her. Adam is still asleep and Hannah doesn’t bother to wake him up as she leaves, but we see Adam opens his eyes clearly he wasn’t asleep and just pretending he was. Hannah meets her parents, who are waiting to take her and Adam is looking out the window looking sad. Hannah is in the car with her parents ready to begin this new journey/chapter in her life.
Definitely a good start for the season, it seems we are going to see these characters discovering themselves and the different paths they are going to take…really looking forward to it. And gotta love all the fabulous guest stars this show always brings to the table and they always make them memorable.
