This week on Girls, we got back to back episodes that led to the season finale. In this episode we see an old friend/nemesis from Hannah’s past that makes her realize some things…while Marnie also comes to a realization about a certain someone, Shosh helps Ray with his problems regarding Helvetica, and Elijah tries to get through Dill to make him see the light that monogamy can be a good thing. Also this episode was directed by Alex Karpovsky…our very own Ray.
We start off with Hannah (Lena Dunham) and Fran (Jake Lacy) at the apartment and they are arguing…he’s telling her that he has never acted this way ever in a relationship and calls Hannah all sorts of names. She calls him a dick and she straight up tells him that this relationship with them didn’t work and she wants him to pack up his things and leave.
Marnie (Allison Williams) is asleep and looks like she is having a grand time with what she’s dreaming about, she wakes up and then we see her walking with Elijah (Andrew Rannells) and she’s telling him that she had a dream about Ray, but it wasn’t a sex dream…but a love dream, where she was brushing his long black hair and that she was happy.
Ray (Alex Karpovsky) is alone at his coffee place when Shosh (Zosia Mamet) comes in and greets him…he’s happy to see her and tells her she is all grown up now. Shosh wants to know what is going on, because the place is empty and he tells her that Helvetica (the coffee place across) is stealing away the customers. She tells Ray that he has to fight this and that she is going to help him.
Meanwhile, Elijah goes to look for some new clothes…because as he mentions to employee D’emilia…right now he’s in an open relationship at the moment and he’s looking to close it. He leaves the place looking spiffy and confident.
Hannah is grabbing a couple of things at the school, when Principal Toby walks in and she mentions to him that she doesn’t think she will be coming back next year. He gets kinda sad with the news and tells her that she brought a breath of fresh air to the school, Hannah smiles and apologizes for going all Basic Instinct a la Sharon Stone a couple of episodes back and she leaves. As she’s walking she runs into Tally (Jenny Slate) an old friend/nemesis from college and Tally tells her she was just thinking of her…Hannah mentions she’s been okay…but also that she is a work in progress at the moment.
Marnie and Desi (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) are talking how they need to find a way to keep working together post their Grey’s job…she tells him that they need to put the past behind them and also this whole not talking to each other if it’s not work related is bs…Tandance (Lisa Bonet) comes right at that moment bringing Desi some tea and they leave together…saving that they gotta go and they are done talking.
Elijah goes to visit Dill (Corey Stoll) at his job and tells him he wants to talk to him, because he isn’t happy with how things were left between them the last time. Elijah tells Dill that he needs to be someone that sees him for himself and not just this famous news anchor that other men will just cater to him because of this reason. Elijah tells him that he doesn’t care about the fame that he just wants to be with someone special. Dill says he’s not wrong with the things he said, but that Elijah is not that special someone…that he needs someone less aimless and Elijah is just heartbroken (poor guy, Andrew was nailing that scene).
Shosh is incognito at Helvetica doing research on the competition and runs into the two owners of the place…she tells them that she is writing a poem and they help her out with random words…she thanks them and she leaves. Hannah and Tally are having some food and catching up and Hannah tells her about finding out her ex is now dating her best friend and how she isn’t writing anymore. She mentions how she was probably just using Fran to get over Adam, who is probably the only person she has ever loved…Tally tells her that was intense and gives her a hug. Both of them leave and Hannah steals a bike and we get a nice montage of both women riding together having some fun.
Shosh is back at Ray’s explaining to him and Hermie (Colin Quinn) how they need to reinvent the place and she gets an idea of making this a destination for the anti-hipster. Over on the other side, Hannah and Tally are at her place both of them smoking a joint and Hannah mentions how she is jealous of Tally for all the thing she has accomplished, but we find out things aren’t all sunshine and rainbows for Tally as she tells Hannah that she needs to see how other people see her…because that is the only way she could see herself…basically she’s lonely and it surprises Hannah.
Someone is knocking on Ray’s door and it’s Marnie, she tells him that she has been having strong feelings about him and it’s making her uncomfortable. They kiss (yes finally!!!) and she tells him about the love dream she had about him, Ray wants to know what the heck is a love dream and she tells him that she loves him and but still having some doubt tells Ray that he can’t be really be the one…but Ray tells her he might be the one (my shipper heart is so happy).
Hannah and Tally are coming down the stairs, when Jessa (Jemima Kirke) and Adam (Adam Driver) walk in and Hannah says hello and then starts laughing along with Tally, because for one they are high and two all the things that Hannah had mentioned to her about them and the episode ends with Hannah laughing crying into Tally’s lap.
