This week on Girls, Hannah struggles whether to tell the father of her baby the truth about her pregnancy. While everyone gives her opinions regarding that decision. Marnie tries to keep it together dealing with Desi and also performing at a birthday party for her mother’s friend.
Hannah (Lena Dunham) has called Marnie over (Allison Williams) for dinner…since she is going to reveal the news of her pregnancy. But first Marnie tells Hannah that her and Ray broke up. Hannah not at all surprised with the revelation tells Marnie that she was horrible to him. A bit hurt, Marnie tells Hannah how Ray was supposed to break that cycle and that he should be glad she wanted to hang out with him (ugh seriously Marnie). Hannah finally announces to Marnie that she’s pregnant. Marnie thinks that Hannah is joking and asks what she is going to do. Hannah replies telling her she is planning on keeping the baby. Marnie digs it and asks about the father and whether she is going to tell him. Hannah tells her no that it is her body…her baby. Hannah upset goes into the bathroom and Marnie blames it on the first trimester hormones.
Marnie and Desi (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) are rehearsing at this club in New Jersey, because her mom asked if they could perform for a friend’s birthday. Desi doesn’t want to do it telling Marnie that he feels drained and that he is tired of being exploited. Marnie mentions how much money they are getting for this show, but Desi tells her that he doesn’t care about the money.
Elijah (Andrew Rannells) walks over to Hannah’s room and asks what she is doing today. She tells him she has to interview this controversial app creator for Esquire and that after she is having dinner with her dad and Keith. Elijah invites her to a hot dog taco party and she says no…Elijah tells Hannah that he didn’t mean what he had said about calling her a terrible mother (he truly feels bad). He tells Hannah how he liked when their lives didn’t have anything going on…Hannah mentions she felt scared when he told her that, because she thought it was going to end their friendship. Elijah tells Hannah that he wants to be a part of her child’s life even saying “our kid”. Hannah relieved hugs Elijah and both say they love each other. Hannah gets a call from Adam asking if she watched his film. She tells Adam no, because she doesn’t have time and also she doesn’t want to see it. Hannah runs into Adam (Adam Driver) outside and he tells her that she needs to watch the movie. Adam says it’s a movie he made about them and that he needs to know if what he filmed was real, he needs to know if he got their relationship right, that if his memories are her memories. Adam wants to know if they both felt the same things and Hannah guarantees Adam they did not. Adam tells Hannah that by watching the film it will help her move on and Hannah tells him she has moved on. Irritated with how he’s acting Hannah tells Adam she’s pregnant. The shock in Adam’s face says it all, he asks if the father is Jan aka Fran, Hannah tells him no and that it’s not important because she is not even sure she wants Paul-Louis to be a part of the kid’s life. Adam wants for Hannah to talk to him, but she runs off leaving Adam behind with him saying F—.
Marnie and her mom (guest star Rita Wilson) are outside at the club in New Jersey, where Marnie and Desi are scheduled to perform for the birthday party. Desi finally shows up an hour late and tells Marnie that he didn’t sign up for this completely high. Desi is just a complete mess. Frustrated Marnie tells her mom that because of the way she was raised her relationships have failed. Because in Marnie’s words it all came down to male approval.
Hannah is having a conversation with her dad and Keith about her decision in not telling Paul-Louis about the baby. Tad supports Hannah’s decision, but Keith doesn’t think it she’s making a good decision. He mentions to her that once he had been a sperm donor and wished that he could have known about the child.
Marnie is stressing out since Desi is out and mentions to her mom that being in a band is her only livelihood. She tells her mom that she can’t perform, but her mom says that she has to because she had convinced her friend, Sharva to book them instead of JC Chasez. Marnie’s mom says that she can back her up since she knows some of the cords while Marnie gives her a look like this is not gonna go well.
Elijah is at his job along with his co-worker (Hamilton’s Jasmine Cephas Jones) and he’s telling her why the heck are they open until 10pm . She agrees and then mentions to Elijah how she has an audition tomorrow and if he can run over some lines with her. He does and you can see a spark light up in Elijah and his co-worker tells him that he is good.
There is knock at Hannah’s door and it’s Jessa (Jemima Kirke). Hannah lets her in and immediately Jessa asks Hannah if she is pregnant…Hannah confirms it and Jessa tells her how hurt she feels that she had to hear the news from Adam. Jessa tells Hannah that regardless of everything that happened between them, Hannah is still her dear friend. Hannah’s reaction to “dear friend” is like come on now Jessa and tells her that she thinks that they were never really real friends and also tells her how can Jessa be a therapist if she can’t figure out her own life. Hannah tells her that she doesn’t care about Jessa’s feelings anymore and that she doesn’t care for her anymore. Jessa cannot let it go and tells Hannah how one can’t just erase people from their lives…that she can’t erase her. But Hannah is just done and tells Jessa she doesn’t care anymore. Jessa walks out the door and tells Hannah “rest in peace”.
Marnie and her mom start performing and it’s just a complete mess, people are not amused and are walking away. Desi walks out of the club and says adios to Marnie. Elijah is telling Hannah about how good he felt reading those lines with his co-worker, but Hannah is miles away in thought. She walks over to her room and shuts the door and calls the place where Paul-Louis works at, but can’t reach him. She opens her laptop and watches Adam movie called, ” Full Dis:Closure” and of course it starts off with a sex scene and Hannah mentions that it’s a porno great, but that changes when she starts seeing that it has more layers than just sex. She sees a conversation in the film about them talking and how Adam is just staring at Hannah in this scene and let me tell you all the Hannah/Adam feels right now. The screen fades to black and we get another short scene of the movie with a flashback of how Hannah and Adam met, it’s a very cute scene with him working at a store and asks Hannah if she’s a writer and she tells him one day. Adam writes his number on her hand and it hurts her and Adam tells her “If it hurts, you’ll always remember”.
