So Comic Con is upon us and even though yours truly will not be in attendance, I do still keep my ear to the ground for the news and the trailers that get released during this time. This morning, DC dropped the trailer for the already much discussed Titans show that they’ve been working on and oh boy…it’s a doozy. Let’s watch the trailer and dig into some thoughts I had.

-Brenton Thwaites, when given the right material, is a fascinating young actor to watch. Idk if he’s been given the material here on this Titans show but it might be worth a shot.

-The look of this series is TERRIBLE. The VFX? Trash. The shot selection? Trash. The camera work? Trash. The makeup? Trash. How is this the first series you’re coming out with on your paid subscription service and it looks a mess? Speaking of…

-Much has been made of the fact that a Black woman is playing Starfire, and I for one, am happy that since all the alien actresses weren’t available, that a Black woman could play this part. But I cannot and will not abide by this raggedy wig they gave sis to wear. How? Why? Who decided on this? #Justice4Starfire

-Looks like the plot is going to revolve around Raven and her demonic powers but like..ok.

-Ok, I know I already talked about how awful this show looks but this shot of beast boy has me screaming. What is the makeup budget of this show?

-Even though he’s only in the trailer for two seconds, I am excited to see Alan Ritchson in a superhero property. He is built for those.

-Finally, people are already commenting on the fact that Robin says “Fuck Batman,” but IMO that is the least of the concerns. My issue is this show looks like it’s trying to be the Riverdale of the DC TV shows aka a gritty, dark retelling of the stories. Much like that CW show, everything about that feels forced and without the visuals to support it (I hate Riverdale but their visual game is on point) it feels like a major misstep.
