The Oscars breezed by in 3 hours and 15 minutes and that deserves a short intro. Let’s dig into the mess shall we.
The Good
First Man winning VFX. This was the 2nd most surprising thing of the night for me, with some bigger and showier CGI creations in the mix, but the VFX in First Man were superb and they definitely deserved Oscars.
Regina King. Oscar winner.
Black Panther taking home three Oscars for Score, Production Design and Costume Design. I cannot tell you how fucking happy I am that Ruth Carter won that Oscar for Black Panther’s Costumes. She was one of two winners I wanted to win and I am so thankful that she did. Her design really inspired me to do more copsplay so thanks Ruth!
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse won!
Spike Lee won a competitive Oscar! I honestly never thought it would happen but we’re in a new dawn apparently.
The performance of Shallow was amazing and it’s one of the few Original Songs in the last group that really has become a moment.
Brian Tyree Henry and Melissa McCarthy presenting Costume Design was the best bit of the night and an amazingly odd presenter duo.

The Bad
Rami Malek and Olivia Colman winning. Glenn Close and Bradley Cooper gotta fight everyone in the Academy tonight, tomorrow, every day.
The Ugly
Green Book winning Best Picture. Though it fits neatly into the stats that you need a Supporting Actor win and a screenplay prize to take Best Picture, did it really stand out that much in this year? I mean the Oscars had been on a truly adventurous run with their Best Picture choices and you give us this?
Bohemian Rhpasody winning Editing and Sound Editing. Girl please.
