I always figured that Now Apocalypse would have a bit of a fall from the high of its wacky first episode, but I didn’t expect quite a steep decline. The show is at its best when it’s challenging the audience and getting wacky, even in simple setting, and this episode missed most of that until the last 5 or so minutes. Let’s dig in.
Ulysses
After a cosmic handjob and seeing an alien sexual assault, Uly took a backseat this week, getting a new job and watching conspiracy videos. I did not expect the guy who seemed to be the main character to be sidelined in an episode so quickly into the season. So much happens to him and Avan is the most interesting actor, so this episode of Now Apocalypse was really boring. The only scene of note with him was watching him try and not be freaked out by the alien mess he witnessed when faced with his roommate Ford, and see the two unable to communicate what they’re really feeling.
Ford
It pains me to say this, cause I love Beau Mirchoff and I love his take on the character, but Ford’s entire Hollywood saga has already run stale for me. If this producer and director he’s met don’t turn out to be evil or good and quick, Ford is gonna need to be put on the back-burner. Even his sex scene this week, a threesome prompt by Severine as congratulations for his script getting picked up, threatened to just be cookie cutter, even with the other party being an antifa protester. Give Beau more to do Gregg!
Carly
By far my favorite storyline from the episode, Carly and her ridiculous boyfriend annoyed me last week, but in this episode both got a really great sequence. The two seemed to be stuck in the doldrums of boring sex and a stale relationship. After her boyfriend gets hit in the eye by her trove of sex toys (that she uses as a camgirl), she lies about what she really uses them for and instead gets to put them to use on him. This is the kind of layered thing Now Apocalypse should do more often. It was funny watching her spank him then hot watching them have sex, but the undercurrent of her lying and the struggles they’ve gone through in their relationship made this a scene worth watching.
