5.782e+6 minutes. That’s how much time is in 11 years, give or take. Some people might feel like that’s how much time is in the runtime for Avengers Endgame. The 3 hour epic conclusion to a saga that began when Iron Man debuted in 2008 is certainly going to go down in history as a monumental achievement in film. But is the film any good?
Honestly after the dragging my spirit took during Infinity War, I was unsure how this movie would end up. I am here to tell you dear reader that rather than wasting time gluing your wig down, you might as well enter the theater bald because that’s what the film left me. The humor, the emotions, the brilliant performances, the spectacle…they were all there in Avengers Endgame.
The basic premise of the film is simple: over heroes want to avenge the fact that Thanos wiped out half the universe. Now how the film spools from that is something best kept under wraps and I will not spoil it for you here. What I was most impressed with this film was that directors Anthony and Joe Russo and screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely balanced so many moving parts and constructed the film to both stand on its own, and serve as a loving monument to all that has led to it.
I honestly am truly exhausted after having every single one of my emotions engaged during this film and I don’t much want to get into specifics. I will say though that these actors embodying these parts have left an impression on me I certainly won’t forget. Getting to see Chris Hemsworth find his groove as Thor and then continue to find new depths has been lovely, as has watching the man who started it all Robert Downey Jr, put this entire thing on his back and truly deliver in this movie. Above all, I am grateful to have been witness to Chris Evans as Captain America, his grounding presence and his kick-ass-ness was put to incredible use in this film.
There are so many iconic moments in Avengers Endgame and the film will have you laughing, jumping out of your seat, and an emotional wreck, often in the same beats. What a time to be alive to see a movie like this.
