While I admit it’s partly for slightly petty reasons, I have become incredibly fascinated by DC Universe. Especially now with HBO Max on the horizon, I wonder just what the future of the service will be. Contentwise, it looks pretty bright.
Titans
After the tragic accident on set this week, the Titans cast and crew was not in attendance but that didn’t mean the audience went home with nothing. Titans season 2 is going to start streaming on September 6 and the trailer showed off many new characters like Iain Glenn as Bruce Wayne. I was decidedly not a fan of the first season but this year seems to have more energy.
Doom Patrol
The first season of Doom Patrol was one of the best things to air in the 2018-2019 TV season and it’s so great to know that they are gettig a second season. Perhaps most interestingly, the show will be airing on DC Universe and HBO Max. This tidbit leads me to believe that eventually DC Universe will be folded into HBO Max, cause it’s hard for me to believe that they won’t try and consolidate their assets.
Anyways, Doom Patrol is great and almost singlehandedly worth getting DC Universe.
Harley Quinn
I 100% did not know what to expect from this pilot but it definitely provided quite a shock. The Harley Quinn show is a super adult cartoon, but done in a kids pulpy style. The showrunners mentioned Tarantino as an influence and that Harley is Mary Tyler Moore as if she was a killer, and that’s readily apparent from frame 1. Unlike some other properties, I really feel like they know exactly what they have and can push the boundaries. I was even more impressed at how they showed Joker and Harley’s relationship for awful and toxic it is, while still making you laugh. Lake Bell as Poison Ivy steals the show.
Oh, Young Justice is getting a season 4.
