Finally putting a bow on the 2024 movie year, I can celebrate the best of the best and have something to compare to the Oscars this coming Sunday. 2024 has to be one of my strangest moviegoing years, probably not aided by my real life job being so hectic that we’re nearly in March as this drops. This movie year includes films that I technically saw in 2023, 2024, and 2025 (you can thank film festivals and the release window for this oddity). But, I was ultimately very happy with this breakdown and it came out to one of the most eclectic top 10’s I’ve ever made. 36 films received a nomination, which is down from 38 last year and while The Brutalist did not lead the nominations field, I did bestow upon it 7 wins with the only miss being screenplay. That’s the most films wins I’ve given out to a single film since 2022 when RRR blazed onto the screen and into my heart.
