Lost in the hubbub of trying to survive, work, and finish watching the 2024 movies before the Oscars, I just realized that we’re a little over halfway through the decade. It is wild to think about just in a real life sense but also after the Oscars, that we’re halfway through a decade of movies! That thought prompted me to look at my spreadsheet where I put my nominees and winners of my If I Had An Oscar Ballot pieces and take a bit of stock of the past 5 years. Naturally, I felt compelled to compare them in a meaningful way and thus the idea for this article was born. I pulled all the winners together in their respective categories and then picked the winner of the winners so far an If I had an Oscar ballot, Half-Decade Edition.
This was such a fun exercise not only to remind myself of great films but to also shock myself at some of my own choices. 57 films are represented here and what fun we’ve had at the movie theater. Looking forward to what will come in the next 5 years.
